Clipper wrote: But after seeing all the hoopla on the Net and the TV news I figgered something like this would make a few folks really THINK about what this here Christmas Season should be......

I spent durn near 3 hours hooching up on that big old buck yestiddy afternoon just afore sundown. Just as I had him in my fixed-sights at 30 yards and was putting pressure on the trigger.....a beautiful doe showed up right next to him! I lowered my gun and me and that buck just eye-balled each other for a good 2-3 minutes. I clicked the gun safety ON and just turned and walked away from him and his doe. I translated his look at me to say:" Well here I am.I have done my duty to produce fine young ones this coming Spring; now do what you will with me."

Call me a sentimental old fool if you will but I figgered that buck deserved to have Christmas with his doe just as I deserve to have it with my family........:-1 :-1

Aww Clipper...I love a softy!! I think a lot of men think it's macho to kill a deer....almost a status symbol here in MO at least. Men here make sure to tie the kill onto their truck bumper for all to see. Or at least have the head with the antlers propped up over the side of the bed of truck. It is sickening. Once my kids saw this and were really sad. For myself....I am impressed with the man that can lower his rifle as you did...and appreciate the beauty of nature at least just once!!!

And dammit, I wish you hadn't. I can't believe you passed him up, Clipper. Not for me to say, though; I wasn't there. I'm sure you made the choice you felt was best, but it sure cracked me.

Wow. I'm not sure I could have passed on him, but again, I wasn't there and you were.

Either way, Merry Christmas to you and your family. :-6

You did a good thing. Something good will happen to you because you chose to let him keep his life. Thank you. :)
