Without attacking Clinton or liberals (or insulting anyone), describe what you consider to be George W. Bush's top 5 accomplishments as president.

1. Bush has kept terrorism off our native soil.......he has kept them busy on their own turf.

2. Taxes have not risen as significantly as they did with Clinton and our unemployment rate is down. The economy of the US is GOOD!

3. He has not sacrificed the environment as badly as Gore or Kerry would have - what a concept.

4. He has kept "BIG Business" - the driving force behind our economy in fairly good tact --- how many businesses left under Clinton?

5. He stands firm behind his policy and has never been accused of sexual indiscresion.

There have been a number of occasions where he shows up without the press, and he quietly goes from room to room, I ve been told he does not know then as he visits randomly... it takes a lot of guts to step into a mans room not knowing his condition or if he supports you or not politically.Especially considering that, for better or worse, he is there supporting your order. Come on, it can't be that hard. I can come up with a few. In no particular order:

* Reacted quickly and effectively to the 9/11 attack (flopstock mentioned this)

* Removed a brutal dictator from power

* Committed billions of dollars to fight AIDs

* Provided a endless supply of material for comedians

* Was responsible for creating jobs in liberal talk radio

Okay, so the last two are sarcastic. I could only come up with 3 accomplishments.

Come on, help me understand why you support him.

Here's why I personally support him.



#1 and always #1. He is our Commander-in-Chief. I support him exactly as I supported Clinton, Bush, and Reagan before him.



#2. With all the blustering and complaining, no one has brought charges against him.



#3. He makes decisions and leads through strong conviction.



#4. He does not micromanage the military



#5. He leads his country with the same respect, loyalty, and love as he apparently leads his family.



I can stand proudly and say the same about Bill Clinton on #1 and #5.

Fifty positive accomplishments from my prior post isn't enough. Here's fifty-one. Today the stock market hit the 11,000 mark. The first time since September 11, 2001. It made all the front-pages when it happened under Slick Willie's presidency. What's "good for the goose is good for the gander," right?

I still don't understand why Bush has the support he does. Most of the responses have been more ideological or emotional than of actual accomplishments. Someone listed things he HASN'T done as accomplishments.

As far as the economy, there was virtually no growth in jobs after Bush's first four years in office. Average income is down from when he took office and poverty is up. His policies have resulted in record budget and trade deficits. We went from record surpluses to record deficits. The U.S. debt has increased by 2-1/2 TRILLION dollars during the past five years. An economy based on debt is not a healthy economy. When Bush took office in 2001, the Dow was right around 11,000 and after five years, it finally got back up to that level. How that's an accomplishment is beyond me.

I agree that Bush should have used the veto many times. He never did, not once. That could have reigned in this out-of-control spending Congress is addicted to.

It's not only pork spending, but all the money we're spending on the war and the tax cuts that are causing the problem.

I'm certain you and I disagree on how much involvement the gov't should have in our lives. We can discuss that if you wish. Had Congress acted more responsibly and/or Bush used his veto pen to curtail the pork, we probably would still be in a deficit, but it would be because of the war, rather than waste.

Some economists argue that tax cuts do very little to stimulate the economy. For example, in the early 90s Clinton raised taxes and what followed was the longest period of economic expansion in U.S. history. You can find an economist to back any economic policy.
