Loved the bear pic too.
and is this a common problem in old blighty?
Can't remember where it was (except that it was in England). I remember reading a story in the newspaper last year. Apparently, along a certain stretch of a main road, cyclists were constantly being bombarded by birds swooping down on them! We're not talking birds of prey here.
The conjecture is that they were protecting their nests. But i have never heard of theat before. I know they like playing 'chicken swoop' in front of me when I'm driving. But I've never been attacked by them.

Seagulls are pretty well known for their derring-do, behaviour. Apparently, though, they are getting worse and are becoming a menace.
