What's your opinion? Does the full moon actually affect people's moods and minds?
Ask most cops, bartenders, and nurses that question and you'll usually get a resounding YES. This bartender agrees.
In the past 10 or 12 days, I have cut off and kicked out more people at work than I have in any other 6 month period. There has been some bizarre behavior in there lately!! I've had to break up 7 or 8 fights, I've been threatened, yelled at, cried to, dumped on and cussed at more in the days surrounding our recent full moon than is even close to normal.
LC, (being a cop) and Peg, (being another bartender) and I know we have a few folks who work in hospitals...what is your experience with full moons? Anyone else subscribe to the theory that it's the moon that makes people act so screwy?

I have no idea what the theory is behind it all but I do believe it does have an effect on certain people.
Full moon was when I could guarantee the ex would kick off at me and cause big trouble.
My brother always thought it was an old wives tale, now he works in the local Casualty Dept he knows better!!

Working in a private club is wonderful because in almost 3 years, there's never been a fight. The bar I previously worked at, now that's a different story. I used to dread going to work when there was a full moon. 3-5 fights a night were normal on full moon nights.

the full moon has been the source of mystery and intrigue throughout history, as well as rituals. all i know about it is we would always be prepared to get slammed, and were never disappointed! one other factor down here is the weather, most nights are mild or hot, and people are out on the streets. there's historically a lot of domestic violence as well on those romantic moonlit nights!

SnoozeControl wrote: I read somewhere that women's bodies are affected by the full moon, linking it to menstrual cycles. Also, that because the human body is composed of so much water (85%?) that the moon has a gravitational pull on our blood much like tides.
I dunno, it all sounds fascinating though. I definitely think something's going on here.
The same as I have heard and experienced Snooze......everything is supposed to be pretty much ruled by the moon. This maybe explain PMS, road rage, and the crazy's that seem to come out .....I drove a city bus for 25 years, thank God I'm a dispatcher today.

Before I had my kids I worked in the ER. We dreaded full moons. That's when the real crazies came in. One time we had lady brought via ambulance with a police escort. This lady was raving mad. She was handcuffed to the bed, kicking screaming, calling everyone names. She ended up being shipped out for psych evaluation. When the paramedics got back they were shaken up. One swore she was possessed.
Also women who are pregnant tend to go into labor during a full moon.

I personally have a problem with the full moon. I can not sleep. I have made my room totally dark and my eyes are wide open for most of the night. I have asked friends if they had this problem and they admitted they did to a certain extent. Does anyone experience this and does not relate it with the full moon?

I've had this happen to me tooo. I don't take any notice of the moon but usually if I have big problems sleeping and check the next day, there usually was a full moon.

If you knew the science behind the Full Moon - you would know the Moon effect is actually 2 or 3 days behind the FULL moon - the moon moves slower than the Earth and the tides are always 2 - 3 days slower as is the effect of the full moon.
What I mean to say is that when you see the full moon its effects on people are 2 to 3 days past the full moon . The only reaseon people say it's the full moon is an excuse. Think about it..............

I have thought about it. I've also worked through 15 years of full moons behind a bar and every single time there's a full moon, people act goofy. There's also a cop and several people who work in the medical field who concur that during full moons, people act goofy.
Hmm....guess we're all nuts. Or making excuses. Oh...but...for WHAT exactly????

Well, I can only relate from experiences my sister the emergency room
nurse and her former (cop) husband had. Full moons were ALWAYS the
worst... she met him one night when he was bringing in a drunken car
accident victim!!
I've heard say that the full moon lights up the dark enough so burglars
etc. can see to do their dirty work but that doesn't explain the babies!!
;)
