That's the norm here. Nearly everyone uses one. I prefer a bill phone but I talk a lot
My husband uses one and a lot of my friends. They find them very practical.

I paid $49.99 for a Motorola flip phone ......and I paid $18.98 for the 60 min. phone card w/ additional 10 min. for being a first time customer. I have 2 months to use the 70 mins. When 2 months is up, I can roll over any unused minutes to another card as long as I purchase another card before expiration. This all sure beats the $60/month i was paying with Cingulair who SUCKS!!!!!!!!

I do have one for emergencies while I am on the road---don't use it much..but glad to have it. The pre-pay system for me is convenient and I just go to the Tacfone website to add my units before the time expires. What I don't use rolls over. The website is more convenient than the phone call. Just have your trac-phone fully charged and have your ISN number handy and take your time..follow the directions.

I used to have a tracfone, but hubby and I went to regular cellphones. I regret the decision. My kids have tracfones. They cannot go over their minutes so we don't end up with a huge bill. They're great! Use the tracfone website and they will add 10 extra minutes for you activating your phone online.

Can trac phones be used for long distance like Ohio to California?

Sure, Sojo. They're just like cell phones, except you pay first, then talk, and not the other way round. Great except for the "Running out of minutes when in a desperate situation" thing.

How's the reception on them, Jives?

Sorry, Sojo, I've never used one. But it wouldn't be any worse than any other cell, I'm sure.

Thanks Along for the Ride and Peg!! (for telling me about the trac phone website!!!) That sounds great!! I am definately a person who can't stand getting caught up in automated "telephone hell".....push 1, push 3 .....and then all to get disconnected and never have spoken to a human!!!!
Sojourner, as far as the long distance, the package boasts no long distance or roaming charges EVER. And as far as the reception, it utilizes the same wireless towers of Cingulair, T Mobile...etc...
I will definately go to the website and maximize my minutes....wonder if that extra 10 min. (for going online) still applies to me??? I bought a 40 min card but was told that all cards are 60 min. now...(even this one) and then I received 10 min. for first time customer....so if i get the online mins., I will be up to 70 mins!! All for 20 bucks!! Woo hoooooo!!

Great reception and does go long distance.
Example: I was flying to North Dakota from Georgia and missed my connecting flight at Denver. I had my tracfone and called both places to let them know I was taking a later flight and had no problem with reception.
Just keep up with your minutes before your time expires and keep your phone charged. And...you don't have a bill to worry about.

Well I went to the site and found it very user friendly...my phone is completely set up and I am very pleased with the process. Not only that, in the end they added bonus airtime and minutes! Instead of the time expiring in March, it will now expire in May and I now have 80 minutes instead of 70 I was only hoping for!!!! Yipppeee!!! If you remember I only bought the 40 min. card for 20 bucks!!!
