What happens if a mouse gets into your house and you never find it??? Last wk when I opened the laundry room door to my garage, I was pretty sure I saw a fleeting little dot of gray jump up the step and fly into my house. I was pretty freaked out. For the first time in my life I understood why ladies jump up on a chair at the site of a mouse!!! An animal lover, I have always been the one to want to catch the little thing and feed it and love it. But that night freaked me out!! Now the daunting question of where it is??? And did it really happen?? Will it do horrible things to my house???

ok first calm down.... second make sure you set traps. third you better clean out all cupboards well and seal up all dry goods. Without readily available food they will either escape or perish. Likely in a dark corner like under your stove. They will smell but not horribly as they are small so you will find it. Tell tale signs you have a mouse, little specs of pooh. If you remove all chance of food they will gravitate to the mouse trap. They love cheese spread or better yet peanut butter. Be sure to seal up pet food too they can last for years on dry pet food. If you see pooh on counters in corners, in cupboards throw all food away, and bleach all surfaces.

secondly to test for a mouse and you have no dry goods readily available and no pets or small kids about, over night put a cherrio under the edge of a cupboard and see if it vahishes. Ok you can use a kernnel of corn, piece of pet food etc. Just do it when all small folk and pets are locked up. If it disappears you likey have a mouse.

Ohhhh...beginning to sound like a nightmare!!! I don't know if I can really do all that. I have 3 kids all running in different directions, a pug dog that has food sitting out, and a guinea pig that isn't in a traditional cage......no bars, just a large tray. The mouse could easily go in and out for food and water. Yikes. The guinea pig never leaves her place. She knows its her home. Wonder if the mouse would harm her? My house is full of nooks and crannies.....I don't know how I could ever do all described above!! My pantry is a walk in...with stuff EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!

Almost foolproof way to get your mouse. Tie a little bit of yarn to the trigger of the trap and cut it off near the knot. Smear it with peanut butter. The mouse will tug on the yarn and that will set it off. It works all the time in my garden.

(Hey! It's my 100th post YAY) :-6

Eggs hunny your little Guinea Pig will be just fine, the mouse is likely more afraid of her than she is of the mouse. Tell Tale sign then watch for poops. They will be usually in the dark out of the way places like the least used cupboards, and if you see more than 3 the mouse is about. Just look under your sink for starters pull out the stuff and look for poops. Mice only stop to eat and sleep, they quite literally poop while the scurry about, and their whole goal in life is to eat. Crazy frenzied things. Well then I suggest a trap in a place where no kids, dogs of G Piggy's can get to, and sit and wait.

They love behind the refrigerator they get in behind to compressor some just die there. The also love the dryer vents so check there, and will chew holes in it. If there is the smallest of holes behind your pipes under the sink or in the laundry room they will go in and out from there. The can make themselves flat and skinny little buggers..!!

If there is one you can bet there are more. Set traps the peanut butter trick works.

I just noticed I'm 46 posts away from 2000...!! :-3

The little mouse is harmless...Sorry to tell you though.. If you DONT find him. and he does die behind the refrig, or stove, or someplace hidden... you will experience smelling the dead mouse smell. Which is a smell you will never forget. Hey, be grateful its a mouse. I just returned from living on the coast of Georgia. We chased rats!! One morning we even had a possum in a rat trap in the kitchen closet. Now that was horrible. The peanut butter does work.

Well we had an investation of rats in our garage (not nice,) but we got rid of them all through a combination of traps and peanut butter. Peanut butter, (despite being one of the most disgusting things on Earth, ) does seem to do the trick so try that.

I agree I would rather have a mouse than a Rat. Euuuwwww. We boast here in this province we are rat free, I am not sure.

minks wrote: Tell Tale sign then watch for poops. Excellent advice. The Chinese refer to this as 'Mao-sey Dung'.

The main thing is to trap, not poison.
