May I see a showing of hands from those of you who would be interested in ForumGarden having a role playing game area?
The average age here in the garden is much higher than the average forum so I'm not sure if there is a real interest in rpg's.
If you need to ask what an RPG is, then I'll take that as a "no" vote.

Any particular genre. I used to play AD&D when I was much younger. I'd be interested to see how you could make it work across different time zones. The only other problem I might have is finding the time. But I'd be interested in certain scenarios.

I'm only experienced at playing RPGs in person, face to face with my fellow players. Not sure how it would work over the Internet.

It all depends what you mean by a RPG. Some of us internet veterans regard RPG's to be play-by-post roleplays where you write the life and times of a character. In the long run it is more fun and far more rewarding. It definately improves your writing as well.
You can check out what I mean by checking out my Roleplaying forum based in a fantasy world and based off the ancient Roman Republic:

Well there you have it. Snooze will not be role playing as "PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON" :wah: :wah:
Role playing is incredibly weak.
Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but I just can't stand someone pretending to be a dragon. And that pseudo Shakespeare makes me want to poke my eyes out.
Tell that to a professional actor or a member of the Royal Shakespeare Society.

You're a first, Snooze. Never heard a dragon use Shakespeare speak before.:wah: Never even thought of it.
Forsythe, pray forgive me my hot breath
Licking about thy blistered ears;
Yet, it may be an improvement
For thy countenance.

I confess that I have never role-played using Shakespeare style dialogues. It doesn't work for me. I think Shakespeare is great, I have a copy of his plays and sonnets, etc.
What involvement have you had with role-playing? Have you actually tried it or just watched others playing?
I have seen people playing it in a pub. It looks stupid to watch. But it is the greatest fun to play, providing the game is set up and run well. The imagination soars like a bird of prey. I'm not sure whether it's as good over the Internet though.:-6

I'm glad Snooze has ample experience of the Roleplaying world.
(I have never, and will never try to impersonate Shakespeare. My work is a bit more original than that)
If you want to join my writing Roleplay check it out on Page one. Don't listen to the bigots :-6

I used to visit a site that was forum based on role-playing different periods of the ancient world-and it was alot of fun. We did not choose historical characters, but persons that could possibly have been associated, or dissassciated with them.

Thanks for all the feedback! I've never been an rpg player - so I'm not sure what we can expect either. :-3
I think I can set it up so those of you who want to can create the games and storylines.
I'll continue my quest. (Pardon the pun.)

Okay! ForumGarden is now running the Inferno RPG system.
A game has been setup - so head on in and create your character! I'm totally new to this stuff - so I'm hunting and pecking around myself.
Inferno will be coming out with a "manual" when they release version 3 of this RPG. When will that be? Maybe by Spring of '06.
Let's see how it is!
p.s. Where's the RPG link? Look above on the navigation bar.

And, as you can see over on the left, once you create a character, a "View RPG Stats" link will be automatically created for you in your postbit area.

Absoutely awesome! I love RPG's!! I have everyone ever made for PS1 and PS2, as well as most of them for Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo!
This is a great idea, Tombstone. Believe me, as people begin to understand how to play, there'll be more and more people joining up.
I've got my character file already set up, and I just tried battling a gollum, but with my guy's level, gollum just darts away.
Besides the obvious idea of a bank loan, are there any characters that are easy to beat at first so I can build up some stats and money?:D

As I posted earlier in the thread - we'll all have to learn how to play this together.

OK...Here's the latest from the RPG scene. I've been staggering around and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. It's really a blast, Snooze, you should try it before you bash it!
Here's a couple of critical tips for everybody:
1. When you create your character, don't forget to give it a "job" otherwise when you try to buy a weapon, it will give you a "you can't use that" message.
2. Fight Gollum for a while, he's easy! But buy a weapon first!
3. Watch your money. Everything costs blasted money! Note: Do NOT go to the hospital! Buying two potions for $60 and using them on yourself will heal you for 80 points. That same action would cost you $160 at the hospital!!
4. Fight until you are low on money, you can take a loan from the bank to buy more stuff, but just like in real life, this isn't too good of an idea. A better idea is to just wait until tomorrow when you "pass go" and collect your salary!:D
5. Before saying "yes" to a battle with another member, check the member's list. If the other person is way above you in experience, guess what? They are just using you for a patsy to get more experience (TOMBSTONE!! Yeah, I'm talking to you! I saw you had 12 battles to my 2 when you challenged me! I'll fight you, but not until I catch up!):D

Oh... I almost forgot, if you have a weapon, make sure to "use" it from the pull down menu on EVERY ONE of your turns.
