here is a link to a story from BBC. 'I have no regrets'

Woman says she was right to help her great aunt die 30 years ago

i'd like to also talk about what i did once. my dear uncle was dying. there was no hope. i sat at his hospital bedside for weeks. one night, in desperation, i told his doctor to administer just enough morphine, and he did. i held his hand the last few moments of his life. i still feel i did the right thing.

I see it as a positive. Of course we can't let doctors anywhere near the power to make such a decision, but if the individual or their guardian is willing to make the decision, in general I think it should be honored.

A lot of people will say we have no right to play God. I would hope, if I ever get to the point where I am no longer myself, suffering greatly, that my family would do this for me. I think letting a person you love suffer is more cruel than letting them go peacefully. It's not a decision anyone takes lightly. It takes more love and courage to let go than it does to let the person hang on, day after day, wondering if they even know who you are.

I feel the same way. If I said " Please let me go" I would love them for helping me. Pride is the biggest factor I think. Letting a loved one keep their pride. It isnt only the physical suffering.

I think you did the right thing, LC. I agree with everyone here. I would do it for someone I loved and I would hope they would do it for me. There is something very important for us all to want to die with dignity.

I think you did the right thing LC. When our loved ones are suffering and want to pass on peacefully, I think we have the right to ask that they be put at ease.

I would not want to carry on living if I could not do the basic things for myself. I truly do not want anyone wiping my butt clean. That's it for me, my life is done. Most people I speak to say the same as this.

However, I think that there should be certain people involved. Firstly, close family AND friends. The GP. And a solicitor. There should also be either a document signed by the person to die and witnessed or a procedure for executing death in the absence of such a document.

Euthenasia, I believe, should be my right. But we need to make sure that the less scrupulous do not take advantage. Neither should it be left just to the professionals.

LC, that was a brave, courageous, and compassionate thing you did. God bless you.
