That's a nice story, Far. It is nice to see a place where guys can sit and talk, and have fun-while spending all day at their beauty shop!:wah:

I was hoping places like that still existed but wasn't sure. Whe I was a little kid our barbershop was like that, but I guess they all were, back then.

Last time I had my hair trimmed, one of my former students was working there-that led to a lovely conversation and made my day.

Great story. We have a small town shop like that.

Lake Wobegone....reminds me of Garrison Keillor's stories.

Its good for men to hang out once in awhile. When I go golfing its like that, like your in a different time and place for a couple of hrs.

Hey Far, I just went for a haircut Thursday, & the local shop here in FL is nothing like yours. Here it's like a "production line"- with 10 chairs, & 10 barbers! There are at least 20 customer waiting chairs, and newspapers & Playboy Mags on the tables. But with all those barbers you don't get much time to read anything as you don't wait long. The hair cut takes all of about 5 to 6 minutes, and that's including the lathering up & getting shaved necks & sideburns! Not too much time for idle chit chat. The place is always full no matter what day it is, as it is about the only real "Barber shop" around for many miles. Oh yeah, there are many many "Hair Salons", but no other real mans Barber shops. (Oh yeah, did I mention all Haircuts are $8.00) ;)

I had a shave once. Id recommend that to anyone, even the girls.

Lean back, hot towel, warm lather, a straight edge razor. Theres nothing like a 60 yr old complete stranger with a sharp 8" razor scraping away at your throat.

Gee, if you're doing it yourself, why not skip going to a real pro. That way you could save a couple hundred. :yh_glasse

It's really great place and I had to search for a place that was kid friendly

Cars! 8 bucks not bad at all! I pay 12 there and I always tip 3 bucks. So do you tip your barber at 8 bucks? Are there women in there cutting hair or are all these barbers fellas?

Yeah Far "one" barber out of all of them was a "woman", & I only got to go to her once when it became my turn. She did as good or better job than the other "men" barbers.

Yes I'm a really "Big" sport, I give them a 10 spot & tell them to keep the change! They are very appreciative! But they all really do work for tips, as they buzz the ears with the machine, trim the eye brows with comb & machine, & even snip any nose hairs when needed. (I always take care of the nose, ears, brows, myself, while shaving. So they just go throught the motions with me, for the tip.)

quote far - C'mon I spent 30 bucks for my son and I to have a good laugh and we got our hairs cut to boot, where can you go these days for an afternoon of entertainment and a hair cut for that cheap?

sounds like my work, we charge £7 for gents & half that for kids, place is always full of fun & laughter, we're a small outfit, just the two of us, think you have to find the small salons/barbers for that atmosphere, go to the bigger flashier places & not only do the customers feel intimidated its also very expensive for the same service
