Thanks Val, I shall put a heads-up to some people. I told so many people about these things when they came out. Very sad, very scary especially when you get a kick out of watching these dogs enjoy them so much, and to have one die because of it would be so devastating.

I'm glad my pooch likes apples and carrots to munch on. Never did buy those greenie treats but will pass along this information.

I would agree that ALL hard treats offer a risk to dogs and cats - not just greenies. The other processed hard treats offer the same kind of risks. Dog's systems are a lot like us humans..............some of us can handle certain intake and some of us cannot. I would like to know the percentage of dogs that have problems with greenies as opposed to dogs who have a problem with all of the hard treats they sell at pet stores.

I've never fed my dog any of them because I alway thought of it like a human eating crap.

Not sure what you mean by "hard treats"... but there IS a difference.

Most treats crumble, and digestive acids can then break them down. The

problem with the Greenies seems to be they hold their shape, sort of, and

get very rubbery and stay that way in the dog's system. There are people

that have put a Greenie in water and left in there over a weekend and come

back to find it the same as when they left. Granted, that's not stomach

acid but still...



'Course, what's a parent (;) ) to do? Pig ears have salmonella, rawhide

can block stuff... on and on and on. I'm just glad Tamsen is way past

wanting to chew on anything...

OK, Val, you've got me on this one. I can't load the video, and I don't know what these treats are. Can you give me some more detail, please?

Oh THOSE....I have seen them, but haven't had a dog in so long, that I've not had the need to buy chewies. They're no good, huh? Going to check out the link now. It was the "toothbrush" part that jogged my memory.

I wish I had seen this before yesterday. I had to take my 21 month old lab to an emergency vet hospital at 2am this morning because of vomiting, lethargy. He was severely dehydrated and needed surgery to remove a blockage from his intestines. The object removed was a greenies treat, which I give both of my labs almost every day. The vet told me he has tried to contact the company because he's removed several of them from dogs' GI tracts. Aside from the minimum $2500 vet bill, my dog has suffered physically and my husband and I have suffered emotionally. My dog may also need additional surgery to remove part of his small intestines if he does not recover well. The vet told me greenies are indigestible and should not be given as treats. I was not able to view the video on here for some reason, but I wanted to let everyone know that greenies are dangerous! If anyone knows of any avenues I might be able to pursue in getting these treats off the shelf, please let me know. I have e-mailed the company, contacted my local store where they were purchased, and the Better Business Bureau. The package states they are 100% edible, which is false advertising. My husband and I have no children, so our pets are like kids to us. I feel guilty for having given my dog something that may have killed him, but I didn't know.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Buster (my chihuahua) and I wish your wonderful animal a full recovery.

Hubby and I also have no children, so Buster and his brother Rusty (an orange tabby cat) are truly our children.

I'm so sorry to hear that Boosmoke. There have been people trying to

get the word out for a long time now, but I still see Greenies in

the pet store.



The video didn't work because it's out dated, this thread was from

last February.



We can only try and get the word out once again.



Hugs to you and your puppers. I know what it's like to have a scare

like that, believe me.
