Boys/Girls

Just wondering...I have a few mom friends who have daughters. I have 2 boys and a girl. My sons are 5 (soon to be 6) and 9....my friends daughters all range from 6-14.....My question is .....why are all these girls so dang competitive and mean? Are girls just hardwired to be this way? It is so bad that their mothers are even all in competition in a way. They say mean things about each other (to me) behind the others back....constantly comparing their daughters scores, abilities, even shoes!!!!! I am so bored w/ this constant banter I can't stand it. The girls are all so competitive that they will stab each other in the back. When I think of my sons, they would never be unkind to their friends for their own self promotion. in fact, they are most always helpful, kind and empathetic to others. For example my 9 yr old didn't have a clue what anybody else scored on a recent social studies test (nor did he care) but every little girl on this street was blabbing all about it right after school and one of the girls ran in crying. Is this normal?
