Don't they heat treat those things before they bag it? Seems to me that

A quick Google search doesn't reveal much... except in addition to what
you said... there is also a worry about creosote treated telephone poles
getting into the mix!!

Even the best mulch should not be spread close to your home. People dont realize they pay 3x as much for mulch in bags as they would having a load( priced by the cubic yard onto ther property. Triple cut oak mulch is the best. It breaks down into very rich soil over the course of one season. Rough mulch lays on top of the soil.. rots and grows fungus.

What about all the chemicals and hazardous waste those trees were sitting in for weeks. Certainly that will be shipped along too.
