3 yrs. Wow ! If any of you had known me then you wouldnt have given me a chance in hell to make it 3 yrs. I certainly never had any hope. There was a time when my 1st waking thought was is there any booze in the house ? What day is it ? Can I start drinking now or do I have to wait till after work.
If it was the weekend, it was a free for all. Drink till I passed out, then when I came to start right in again.
Thats behind me now.
I decided to live and its been the best 3 yrs. of my life. Theres been a couple of bumps along the way but I got through it sober. About a yr. ago I checked into a hotel with a bottle of bourbon, but I never cracked it open and came home to my wife instead.
My wife.
Jaimy, You stuck with me through some very tough yrs. I dont know where you found the strength to do that and I know it wasnt easy, but you never gave up hope. In that you have taught me one of lifes greatest lessons. What it is to love.
You taught me what true friendship is.
You gave me a gift and that is you.
Thank you my love. All of our days whatever they may bring, will be sweetened by the love we share.
The rest of you guys....thank you so much for your love. I cant tell you how much I enjoy my time with you, well I could but I wont. :p
Your all little treasures that I cant seem to get enough of. So far its been a hell of a ride, and look forward to all the serendipity you have to offer, Ill just keep soaking you up. :-4
Life is very good now and Ive learned to love myself. (No sneeze not that kind of love) God !
Im peaceful and happy for the 1st time in my life and I cant wait to see what little tricks life will throw at me next !

Thanks Val!! This happened last week when my internet was down, now I understand how I missed it.
Nomad, you're my hero. 3 years is HUGE. Good for you, and I know you'll not falter, ever. You are indeed, "da man."

Bez, the coin you see is a marker that AA gives it's members at certain points in their recovery. I believe 6 months sober is the first marker, and as they progress, they get different tokens for different anniversaries.

Nomad.. I of course, never would have known you formerly had a drinking problem. I was only going to post... GREAT GREAT GREAT. But then I thought.. tell him that I think Ill stop drinking too. I have often though of BR when Ive polished off a whole bottle of wine at night. ( She didnt know this) Now I find another role model here this morning. A well spoken, incredibly funny, loving, and grateful man.
My life isnt in the toilet, or anything..... But you know... those mornings after when you just dont like who you were the night before.... are around more often.
And I think my brain doesnt have any serotin left.
So I hope you dont mind.... that I used this congradulations thread to you.. To say
you inspired someone else... to put the bottle down. :-4 Best wishes to you for continued strength. How wonderful for someone who obviously holds such a love of life... to have accomplished such a huge personal achievment.

Q. How Can You Tell If Someone Has an Alcohol Problem?
from National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
A.
A good first step is to answer the brief questionnaire below, developed by Dr. John Ewing. (To help remember these questions, note that the first letter of a key word in each question spells "CAGE.")
Have you ever felt you should Cut down on your drinking?
Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
Have you ever felt bad or Guilty about your drinking?
Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (Eye opener)? One "yes" answer suggests a possible alcohol problem. More than one "yes" answer means it is highly likely that a problem exists. If you think that you or someone you know might have an alcohol problem, it is important to see a doctor or other health provider right away. He or she can determine whether a drinking problem exists and, if so, suggest the best course of action.

Well weedy your life doesnt have to be in the toilet for booze to cause problems. For me it had to be in the toilet and pretty near death to quit but were all different. Im no guru just a guy that went off the deep end and managed to crawl out just in time but I might have learned one or two things on the uh..."adventure"
Feel free to pm me if you ever want to talk.
