Wow abbey, thought only crazy things like that happened in the USA. Just goes to show you that some "people" will do anything for money, regardless of how harmful it can be for them. the article said, volunteers are paid up to £150 a day to take part in clinical trials, though the fee can vary depending on the amount of discomfort involved. Amount of discomfort as measured to what? How much would the fee be if they die, & then what good would it do them then? :wah:

It said on the news last night that all their major organs were shutting down!

Yet they claim....

Such an adverse drug reaction occurs extremely rarely and this is an unfortunate and unusual situation.

SIX were given the drug, SIX are in intensive care! How can this be a rare reaction? Overall, maybe. With all other drug testing situations. But in this situation its obviously a VERY common occurance and they should have been aware of its possibility. Unfortunately all six would have signed a waiver so the families of the men can make no claims on their behalves, yet what if they're damaged for life?

I cannot believe that such major reactions in humans also caused NO reactions in mice or rats, as their physiology is supposed to be similar to ours. I hope the truth of what went wrong comes out and isn't hidden behind some smoke-screen.

This is a very warped solution to stop people from suffering from arthritis or leukemia....just kill 'em off!

 Awful this is truly a rare occourance, what are the odds that so many in a clinical trial would have this severe reaction to a drug. Somebody screwed up some where ..@!!

Does anybody know what animals they have used for animal testing?

Not to seem cold hearted but I guess thats a risk you take if you are willing to expose yourself to unknown drugs. Hope they make it.

He said TGN1412 had been tested extensively in laboratories and on rabbits and monkeys, with no adverse effects and no drug-related deaths.

I have these yellowish plaque-like deposits on my eyelids. At one time, a heart doctor offered me an experimental drug that they were hoping would dissolve these deposits. I turned him down due to it being experimental and not knowing the long term effects. I have since regretted it many times, but stories like this make me really glad I did.

Sorry, I missed that.

I think it's interesting there were no adverse effects on monkeys, and now humans have such bad reaction to it.
