My Mid-Term Assignment

For my mid-term life drawing assignment I drew myself nude. I am sitting on top of the counter in the bathroom, with my feet in the sink. I drew the bathtub and the room behind me.
So I took it to class on Monday for the teacher to see it and for help on it. He seemed to really like it. And he said it was the "boldest thing" I have done in this semester so far.
Well it is a life drawing class, we draw nudes. So would it not be appropriate to draw myself nude. Another guy drew himself nude too, but from behind. So his buns are only showing. I wanted to do better than that. I am not the greatest artist, but I did my best and the teacher seemed to really really like it.
I will be getting the class critique tonight. And more comments from the teacher I am sure.

All I gotta say is .. I was raised by a Missouri German... MO is the "show Me" state... so...

but now seriously... that is a bold thing to do... it shows you have the right... hmmm what is it... "constitution and dedication" to be a serious artist.
Good on ya!

I'd love to get back into sketching and drawing. That was a gutsy thing to do, Saff. Have you gotten a grade yet?
Good luck with the critique!! :-6

Good luck Saffron. You will make a great artist!
My daughter is an art major too, and had to paint a self-portrait-but she only did portions of her face. She did very well and got a good grade.
Now this sculpture class of hers, oh my, she stores the week's assignments in my bedroom! And lately there has been an eye and an ear....................give me a head at least or something!
*looking around everytime I go to change clothes!*

I will be going to my class tonight, so will find out. But I am having another life crisis.
It seems that my roommate thought I was moving out, since I forgot to tell her that I am not now, with all of the things on my mind lately I forgot to tell her. She accepted a deposit of $100 from a friend who is not getting along with her young daughter. So she wants to daughter to live where I am. So I had a heart attack when she told me. I almost begged her to let me say there. She said she "isn't kicking me out" but wanted to know how will I pay for rent now, since I lost my job. I am borrowing $250 from a good friend tonight and then I am getting a school grant the end of this month of $550 to pay the April rent. I told her all this. And I had an interview yesterday and will hear back by end of the week. But in the meantime, I am on pins and needles. As she said she has not talked to the other woman about her daughter moving in. She said she does not want to burn her either. so hopefully she will let me stay, at least to the end of the month.
I guess with all of the recent times that I have wanted to move out, she has become doubtful that I am going to stay. But 2 1/2 weeks ago, she got served divorce papers from her x and he is trying to take the house. So it made me think that I won't have a place to live anyway, so found that other place really quick.
Sorry about the rant. Maybe it will all be okay later tonight. She does not sound like she is going to do anything bad to me. But she seems kind of skeptical of me now. I guess paying her rent on time would help. It's hard though, since I lost my job. Please God, let me get hired at that place I interviewed for yesterday. It seemed like a good possible job prospect.:-1

I wish I was a good artist. But compared to the other students, I am really not that good. Sometimes I am, but sometimes my drawings really suck. And I see some of the other student's work, and think that I am not really that good.

Don't compare yourself to the other artists, everyone has their own style. Have confidence in yours!

Anyone who has the confidence, and the talent to do that drawing... surely, will have life by the tail, one day. Your teacher better give you a great critique. If he doesnt ... dont you fail to be impressed by your own tenacity and talent. You are your best critic and your best audience. You sound like someone who I would have loved to have had in my life as a daughter.

PS It is important that you consider this..... Very often ( not always) People who teach art, music, drama, writing etc..... are frustrated artists. You are familiar with the saying... " Those who cant do, teach? " Im just telling you this to open your awareness to the fact that their assesments of your work are not always gospel.
You may have to please them to get a good grade. But thats it.

We all think that! When you start to sell your work, then your confidence will boost! And LEARN from these other students! Find out what they are doing and you are not! You will get better with each piece that you do. Remember what the great michaelangelo said. 'draw, draw. draw!) He was one of the ones I studied. Practice on him! Draw his sculptires. It worked for me!

Yes my teacher shows us Michelangelo's art too.
It seems that for right now, I have been taking care of my immediate problems instead of focusing on art. I need to do that now. Eventually I will be able to get back into art.
