I've been thinking a lot about my time at school (senior - age 12-16) recently. My English teacher was a true inspiration, he instilled a love of literature in me - no mean feat given the spotty adolescent herbert i was then (still am?).

He did have a rather unfortunate predilection for velvet jackets, however.

Anyone else have inspirational teachers?

Inspirational teachers? ahahaha...had a math teacher once that had "tickle sticks" and loved chalkboard erasers....if he felt you weren't paying enough attention, he either threw an eraser at your head or smacked your hands with two, foot long rulers which he named tickle sticks if you weren't writing fast enough. He inspired me to....ditch he class alot!

I was fortunate to have had a few very good ones. Most were awful and pretty useless though. 5th grade She managed to inspire me to love reading. She also made every one of us feel special. 10th grade English. Not only was she a great teacher... she was her own person. Very liberal and down to earth.. they got rid of her. There were a lot of jerks. One terrible bore... history. He sat in a chair with his hands in his pockets... all happy because he had been bowling the night before... scratching dandruff from his greasy head, that used to fall all over his shoulders.. like a little snow storm. Unbelievably boring and disgusting.

I loved my 7th grade teacher, Miss Vial. She was paralyzed, and in a wheelchair, and we could learn anything we wanted form the glorious way she wove her stories. And we went everywhere, nothing would stop her.

Hmm, we had a couple like that too...on reflection, however, even Jacko the German teacher (PICK UP THAT PIECE OF PAPER, BOY!!!) was slightly inspirational in that he got me through my exam at 16...one of the reasons for the post was that while looking at fiends reutd site i saw a message from the daughter of another old teacher...he's 85 now, and still going strong...wanting to hear from ex-pupils...

My 8th grade history teacher. Mr. Dart. He dressed up as various characters from history. It really brought it to life for me. I have had a love of history ever since.

And my english teacher. The one who introduced me to Shakespeare. Some of them just get it right.

Grade 10 Canadian History teacher, Mr. Obrien. It was an optional class, yeah what kind of fool takes Canadian History as an option, I think it was a last ditch effort to put me someplace ahahaha Well from there my interest in history blossomed. He was witty and smart and had a way of making his lessons stick in our minds.

6th grade I had Mrs. McClowsky. She always expected the best, and if she didn't think you were giving your best, she let you know about it.

Geez my history teachers were always coaches, so that meant 30 minutes a history lesson and the rest of the class going over football plays with the football players. :wah:
