Broadband Fax

Can someone please help.
We turned our fax line into a broadband line and now run both the fax and internet from the same line.
We have a ASDL filter on the broadband socket. From this we have a lead directly from the ASDL part of the filter into the computer. The fax runs from the phone socket on the filter.
Everything works well until one of our machines starts up in the factory. At this point we lose the broadband connection. I can get it back by unplugging the fax.
I purchased an ASDL modem surge protector but this just renders the modem constantly unusable - it just 'pings'.
Unless someone can suggest anything I think my only option would be to get another BT fax line, independent of broadband. Apart from the speed this would seem to make the broadband line an expensive option.
