what do you do if you're very upset about something, but can't talk about it? i distract myself with the computer, or go sleep for a couple hours. awake, asleep. PC.

Well LC you know I'm going to ask what are you upset about sweetie that you can't talk about..!@!
When I'm upset I usually just think it out and it usually is never as bad as it seems at the time. If it is bad then I come up with a plan, or even several plans to work through the problem with as little stress as possible.:-5 Or I just go to Wal-Mart and shop till I drop...

and eat ice cream..

I run. Years ago, the first time I broke up with a girlfriend I really, really wanted, I was living at the time in an apartment on Sunset Boulevard, near the beach in Pacific Palisades. Next to the property was a wooded canyon with a stream and trails running through it. I just went outside and got on the trail and started running like crazy. That's been how I "self treat" depression ever since.

Running or fast walking works too!! Some kinds of blues are apparently caused by socialised adrenalin-overload. Something happens and your system floods, preparing you for fight or flight. But you can't always get away, and clobbering some one who's injured you senseless is considered not-nice, so there's no natural release and we turn the anger inwards. Some forms of aerobic exercise burn off the excess adrenalin and ya feel good again.
HOWEVER, this is not appropriate in LC's case!! Please call Carla... and see a doc!!!!

fight or flight...so true. it was a constant presence in my job. my cardiologist said my heart rate was outrageous, and put me on a beta-blocker. i was dumping adrenalin constantly. 12 hours a day in fight or flight mode. i couldn't stop when i was off-duty. i couldn't even watch TV without my heart racing. i was always ready for a confrontation. still am really.

LC, I tend to play music on my ipod and let it fill my head and then escape into my imagination where everything is as I want it to be.
Life hurts a lot of the time, but we get through it even though it sometimes seems impossible.
Take heart, LC, and know that you deserve the very best
A big hug and love

If there is just ONE person you can trust then phone them...it's bad to bottle things up. Write it all down to get it out of your head and then maybe you can make some sense of it. Tidy up, sort things out (but I guess you've don that). Play your fave music, but most of all talk to at least ONE person. :-4

I'll either try and write about what's bothering me or go for a long walk. Countryside is best and preferably somewhere up high where I can just breathe in the good air and relax.
Depends on the nature of the problem really.

I go to the sea, it soothes and calms me and helps me find perspective. I always retreat, friends will know there is something up but I only reveal to a few what the real problems are, and those people are the ones I know won't judge or criticise me. I do enough of that to myself!
