As most of you know, my husband has been drinking after 23 years of sobriety. Here's the update. He will not go to AA or rehab. He says he knows the program and knows what he needs to do. They will tell him to quit his bartending job and he feels that at 53 years old, he couldn't find another job. I highly disagree. He worked with juveniles for 20+ years before becoming burnt out. But I cannot solve his problem for him. It is his problem and he must find a way to solve it hisself. Unfortunately, this also affects me and our children. I have to have faith in him. He beat it once, hopefully he can again. If he does take another drink though, I am prepared to do what I must for my survival and my children.
He was also a drug addict. The doctor recently prescribed a Duragesic patch. I have talked him out of using it. He has an appointment Tuesday and I told them he is diabetic and drinking again and that it's crazy to give a recovering drug addict a narcotic patch. They seemed unaware of the fact that he is a recovering drug addict and I know damn well that it was in his charts at one time.:-5
Thank you all for the pm's and kind words. Wish me luck. Wish US luck.

Be prepared to stand by what you've said, there is no way he is going to get this under control on his own. Maybe he can collect SSI and get treatment and job reraining....Find out your options as it is a disease. How many children do you have?

Sorry to hear the bad news Peg, just wondering do you know what set him off after "23" long years? 23 years was quite a significant accomplishment on his part, and it's now turining out to be such a sad turn of events. If we could only turn back the hands of time! As the song goes: What a difference a day makes, "24" little hours!

He does have to do this on his own, but with your support and firm hand, maybe he can make it. I wish you the very best luck with this, Peg. I know all too well what you're going through. Stick to your guns, as I know you will.

If he wants it the pair of you can win.
He's shown before that he's the strength of mind, you can help him with the strength of will. If he wants to climb back on the wagon between you, you can do it.
The very best of luck to you both.

You are the only person who knows what is best for you and the kids. I know you have the strength to follow through on whatever decision you make. I'll be thinking of you. BTW......love your jokes.
