illegal immigration problem?. Hardly. Lettuce at FOUR DOLLARS A HEAD or grapes at TEN DOLLARS A POUND- now that would be a problem.

Oh please, they just have to walk over.....the INS arn't allowed to do anything unless they are told to, thus you see all the businesses hiring day laborers throughout the country.

They had a bad roach problem. Not our best vacation.

Anyway, my friend, Orion and I like to observe stars. We waited until after dark, and then drove to the top of a nearby hill in my 4X4. There was already another 4X4 painted in camoflage colors at the top, and a man inside, with a computer and what looked like a lot of communications equipment. He did not look happy to see us there.

We sat in our truck talking for a short time, before I looked in my rear-view mirror, and saw the man walking toward us- just barely illuminated in the starlight. He walked close to the side of my truck. I saw in his hand, at his side, a nine-millimeter automatic pistol, and I felt my face flush warm, anticipating what might be an unfriendly encounter.

"What are you doing here?" the man demanded.

Orion, who had not seen the gun, got smart with him. "What's it to you?"

I said quickly, "We came to look at the stars."

"You shouldn't be here." he hissed. "You're interfering with the operations of U.S. border patrol. Get out of here now."

I started up and pulled away, unable to cut off my automatic headlights, which painted the Border Patrol vehicle, and made the man grimace in disgust, then I drove us out of there as quickly as I could.

I explained to Orion later what I had seen. He was still irritated that we could be forced to leave what seemed to be a public place. I thought our driving up there was stupid of us, but since we don't live near the border and don't have a clue about what is going on there, I wasn't going to beat myself up over it.

Thats scary, maybe they should have been looking underground. (that elaborate tunnel and they had one like that not that many years ago) The illegals are wanted here by our government.

I remember hearing at the time that some border patrol officers had been shot at, and that conditions there were getting dangerous. I just forgot, and me and my friend drove out there for stargazing. Couple of turkeys we were!
