Brother Derek is the 3-1 favorite for the Derby. Unfortunately, he has

drawn post position 18, which is waaay outside, and no horse has won

from that spot since Gato del Sol (Cat of the Sun) in 1982.



Also, favorites don't often win the Derby. Last horse to do it was Fusaichi

Pegasus in 2000. Before that, it was last won by the favorite Spectacular

Bid in 1979!!

Well as Minks and Weeder are showing up on Saturday, I'd put a bet on no. 6 at 20-1.

I don't ever pick my horse until I see them right before the race. Since the Triple Crown races are the only ones I ever watch (or are really interested in) I don't usually pay attention to the odds or the winning histories of the horses involved.

I also haven't picked a winner since Spectacular Bid.

I was going to go with Lawyer Ron but his post position is way out

there, too, so now I'm revising it and flopping between Sinister Minister

and A.P.Warrior, who has another accomplished jock in Corey Nakatani.

A.P. Warriors daddy is A.P. Indy, with Settle Slew and Secretariat in

his bloodlines not too far back!

Watching them right before the race is important, too, when I go to our

state fair I do it that way, I usually watch 2 or 3 races and pick in my

head which one I think, then I'll go ahead and bet. But for some dang

reason I almost always do better with place and show, and of course

you can't make any money that way!!



One time I went with someone and he wanted to bet on this one horse,

we watched them in the warm-up paddock, this horse was bouncing

around when they saddled him, and whacked his head against the stall,

I told my friend "That horse is NOT going to win today" but he

wouldn't listen and bet on him anyway. Horse didn't come in dead last,

but pretty close!!

LOL!! My family usually finds someplace to be at racetime. Something about me yelling at the t.v. Go figure. I really don't know what the problem is - a horserace is a lot quicker then a football game!

I don't ever bet though.
