While it is claimed, and I accept, that it is a work of fiction, I am surprised at the accuracy of the background support [or bones] for this work of fiction. I have chased up every reference that is possible.

This no sloppy romance or devious "who done it".

I still accept 'The Da Vinci Code" is fiction.

But this novel goes beyond the usual rubbish that is accepted as popular fiction and puts to shame the drivel usually accepted as the paragon of modern literature.

So, I put as a question, if this work of fiction is so outlandish as to defy logic and common sense, then, why has it been condemned by, so called, Christian authorities?

If I may answer my own question, it seems to me, that there is so much truth in this work of fiction, that the highest authorities in the so called established faiths, and the so called evangelical preachers, are running for cover. They are, indeed, "pulling out all stops" to condemn the "Da Vinci Code."

Are they so frightened that something of truth has been allowed to escape their closely guarded beliefs?

There is no denying that the so called Christian authorities have the blood of innocents running over their hands. That is Truth and Fact.

Why, is it, that these same authorities feel that they are so threatened by a work of fiction, that they will resort to every means possible to suppress 'The Da Vinci Code"?

With respect,

Gordon.

Have you also read 'Holy blood, Holy Grail' Gordon ? It was very thought provoking.....the same subject matter obviously.

It is just a story, a work of fiction. Some people take offense because of the suggestion that Jesus was married. If the book or movie offends them, don't read it or see it. I am very religious, and took it as a far stretch of the imagination to begin with, but it is a decent book to read.

It is a great story. (Great movie coming out May 19th). I am not opposeed to it at all. It has been a contraversial issue since it's release. Over 50 000 copies have been sold. I am currently reading Dan Browns 'Angels & Demons'. This Brown guy is a smarty pants!

I read the DaVinci Code a couple years ago, at least I think it was a couple years ago. I thought it was a terrific read and even back then I thought it had great movie potential, provided the screenplay doesn't dessecrate the book.

I am, by all counts, a conservative Christian. It really pisses me off when preachers, or priests start telling me what to read and what not to read. It's as if I don't have a brain to think for myself. However, I do have a Masters from Trinity Theological Seminay!!! (like I act like this right?) Anyway. . . I encourage people to read this book and enter into the debate. There are plenty of scriptures that tell us to "test the spirits to see if they be of God." or to "know the enemy." Telling believers NOT to read this or that is basically telling them to put their heads under a bushell basket. It's nonsense.

I was pretty up on all this a couple years ago, but I forgot a lot. I've read all of Browns books though, and this was the best!!

I have just finished reading "The Da Vinci Code" for the second time. Every word that was unfamiliar to me, I looked up in the dictionaries or on Wikipedia.

In all my searches, I found no error of fact!

I believe that this book of fiction is more Christian than most works of fiction published. It is probably more truthful than most so called "Christian" publications.

Whether Mary Magdalene was married to Jesus or not, does not challenge my faith in any way. Neither does it challenge the real truths of the Christian faith.

But what I do know is that "The Church" as an organisation has hands dripping with blood and scared with the embers of human flesh.

The Church as a Christian identity will live on. The, so called, "Christian Church" that is a human organisation based on money and public piousness and showmanship will struggle on, trying, at every turn, to pervert the true meaning of Christianity.

With respects.

Gordon.

Kudos Gordon!! That is exactly how I feel as well. I do not like the organized church as they put some men above others. Ever read any history of the Popes? Talk about sordid! Here's just ONE incident. There was a priest who fell in love and decided to marry. They "the church" excommunicated him. At this particular time, there was a pope in office who kept concubines. If you want to make your blood boil read "The Woman that Rides the Beast," b Dave Hunt!!!
