I used to like mine with croutons, but I've ditched those for eggs, cheese, iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, cucumber(sometimes) grapes, and ranch for dressing. With a jacket potato! Yum! Now I'm hungry!

I like mine with a mix of lettuces, cherry tomatoes split in half, cucumber, red onion, sliced radishes, boiled eggs, bacon bits, and sometimes some grilled chicken chopped up in it. All covered with a generous dollop of French dressing.
Ok now what's a jacket potatoe??

Ok that's what I thought. I love a big baked potatoe with cheese, butter, sour cream, and then a big spoonful of chili on top.
I had a salad once at a cooking class I attened with a friend. It had toasted pecans and strawberries in it. It was so good, even though I was gagging when the guy was making it.

I like anything GREEN in a salad...mixed leaves, cucumber, green peppers, onions, celery, chives, herbs. Add a few halved cherry tomatoes and maybe top with some of those crispy fried onion 'things'. I don't like salad cream or mayonnaise, so I add something from a 'dip' selection. I would use this to accompany just about anything ...lasagne, spag bol, cottage pie, cold meat and any cheese you care to name.
I have a 'V'slicer which has a blade that chops things....only takes seconds to do.....blimey...i need to go and get my dinner now before i sit and watch the telly (a rare event for me).
There is a programme celebrating the 'Princes Trust' on ITV tonight (6.55)...it comes from the Tower of London'. I did have an invite from my boss to go, HONEST, but as I'm baby sitting, I'll watch on the telly and see if I can spot my colleagues.

Spag is for tomorrow night!
But you should have seen the mess they were making setting up for that! If we would have visited the tower yesterday or today we would have been upset! :wah:

Hi Raven. Here's one I've been making for a long time- Italian Country Salad.
Tear up pieces of Ciabata into a large bowl. Add cubes of cucumber, bite sized pieces of firm tomatoes (plum, or vine), a red onion, finely sliced, basil- torn up, chopped parsley, and olives.
Make a simple garlic vinegarette and pour this over, and mix it all up. Sprinkle with toasted pine nuts. Season it. Yummy! Great at BBQs.

it looks pretty awful at the moment...guess it's all in a good cause. Wonder if Uncle Kram had anything to do with the set.

I'll eat any salad if someone else has made it as long as there are no nuts lurking. Hate salad really. Never make it.

I am not a huge lettuce fan, so I would put a small amount of iceburg lettuce and then top it with sliced mushrooms, grape tomatoes, diced egg, cucumbers, garbanzo beans, sweet green or red pepper and some ranch dressing. Maybe a few bacon bits or thin sliced turkey:D

Thing is, Jaydee, is you have to have a certain sort of imagination for what tastes go nicely together and I haven't. I've tried to reproduce salads I've had that I like and they never seem to taste the same.

Fresh crispy green lettuce moist with drops of dew. Freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese, thin slices of egg, sunflower seeds, green olives, tender morsels of hickory smoked turkey, slivers of honey baked ham mixed delicately with seasoned croutons, covered generously with sweet and spicy french dressing.

I wouldn't do this for just anybody but will for Forum Garden.....it sounds yukky but is absolutely habit forming good.
BROCCOLI SALAD
1/2 POUND BROCCOLI CHOPPED INTO BITE-SIZED PIECES
8 SLICES OF BACON, FRIED AND CRUMBLED
1 BUNCH NEW GREEN ONIONS, PEELED AND CHOPPED
3/4 CUP RAISINS ( TO 1 CUP)
3/4 CHOPPED WALNUTS
DRESSING FOR BROCCOLI SALAD
1 CUP MAYONAISE (NOT SALAD DRESSING...MAYONAISE )
1/2 CUP SUGAR
2 TABLESPOONS VINEGAR
MIX AND POUR OVER BROCCOLI MIXTURE...LET SET 1 OR 2 HOURS BEFORE SERVING.
SOMETIMES I ADD A COUPLE CUPS FRESH GRAPES...
THE FIRST TIME I SAW THIS SALAD I THOUGHT THE COOK HAD LOST HER MIND BUT AFTER BEING ENCOURAGED TO TRY IT I NOW MAKE IT QUITE OFTEN.

I also & still make mine with croutons, & eggs, feta cheese, iceburg lettuce, little mesculine, tomatoes, cucumber, grapes, grilled chicken strips, sliced almonds, walnuts, & plenty of dressing, ranch, or blue cheese, or ceasar, or balsamic vinagar. My wife keeps telling me that I'm defeating the purpose of a salad adding in all those extra calories. (Unfortunately she's right, but it's sooo good!)
