A paws story

A couple of weeks ago, I was thoroughly castigated when I proposed the extermination of the breed of dogs, a registered breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier.

As a dog lover and past owner and trainer I was astonished at the quite verbally violent response. Along with the Rhodesian Ridgeback and the American Pit Bull Terrier some breeds were bred to attack and kill.

Yesterday, in Australia, we had The Day of a Thousand Paws. Dogs and their followers gathered to walk to raise funds for the RSPCA. They all walked happily and without incident. There were little fluffy dogs like my friend Benny and big dogs like Irish Wolfhounds and German Shepherds. They all walked along happily and without incident. The whole event in our city was filmed, mainly for television.

There was not an American Pit Bull Terrier or a Rhodesian Ridgeback in sight.

Am I to be castigated again?

Take care,

Gordon.
