Dracula's castle returned to family.

ABC Sydney.

One of Romania's most popular tourist attractions, Dracula's castle has been returned to its ancestral owners six decades after it was seized by communists.

In a special ceremony, the castle in Transylvania was handed back to the Habsburg family, whose ancestors ruled Romania in the late 17th Century.

In 1948 the family was forced to leave the 14th century fortress after the communists confiscated it.

The castle has always been associated with the prince, Vlad the Impaler, famed for his cruelty and the inspiration for the Dracula character.

The castle has become one of Romania's most popular tourist attractions and has appeared in dozens of Hollywood Dracula films.

A new law passed in Romania last year made it possible for former owners to claim property seized during the communist era.

Take care,

Gordon.

Sorry to bring things down a bit, but they could do with passing a similar law in all the countries where the jews were persecuted in the second world war. What few jews that survived, when they returned to there property where they came from, someone else "owned" it or had taken it for someother reason, and they didn't have to give it back.

With respect,

You are right in your conclusion, but Dracula's families were not "Jews". There were millions of other people who lost ownership of land and resources besides our Jewish bretheren.

And dispossession is still going on today, in many parts of the world even today. And some are being disposessed by some Jews, but not sanctioned by my Jewish family members or my Jewish friends.

800 years ago, according to research, my family were disposessed of thousands of acres in France, and a title. But none of this is important right now.

What is important today, is peace, reconciliation, and respect of others today. "I am my brother's keeper."

Actions that are taken today reflect on us. Are we so self righteous to assume that we need to restore the past is more important than than building today.

With respects.

Gordon.

They might be able to restore land and existing buildings in some cases, but what about the family heirlooms that were plundered? God knows where any of that might've gone. A 500 year old portrait of an ancestor, stolen and sold for a pittance.

Oh well, I guess that's been going on throughout our history.

The tragedies of families killed is a cold and dark period in history. On the night of July 17, 1918, Nicholas, Alexandra, and their children were killed in Russia.
