I am a member at another board where they discuss a medical condition I have called PCOS. Someone put a thread up saying goodbye and that she was committing suicide because her disease is driving her crazy. Naturally everyone posts telling her not to do it, so on and so forth. Well, here is the part IM weirded out by: They all go on to tell her they have been there and its this disease and all of them have wanted to commit suicide over this.

Here is the problem. I dont get it. I mean I dont get severe depression over this disease. Its actually not life threatening and is no where near (in my opinion) anything like cancer, AIDS, Morgellons, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, and many more.

Its totally treatable, is not fatal, I mean, there are some nasty symptoms like facial hair and weight gain.

Am I being insensitive to think these women are really blaming this disease for every problem in the world and overanalyzing everything that happens to them?

The girl did apparently try to kill herself and has just gotten out of a coma (we are being updated by her husband). I feel bad, but I have never had these horrible feelings most of these women describe. I just listen to my doctor and do what they say and take care of myself.

DG, what is PCOS? Can you give us some more detail? It does sound like an extreme measure to take if it's not life-threatening....I suspect more underlying problems with this woman.

DG--some people's depression can be caused by little things (as we see them) but of course they are not to them..We had a neighbor lady that tried to commit suicide because her daughters boy friend was killed in a car accident..Her depression was so severe after watching her daughter suffer that she tried to end it..On the outside looking in- you would think that she would be strong for her daughter not add to her sadness...Illnesses -no matter how big or how little they seem are so detrimental to our health that they can consume your whole life..This could be what has happened to her..Don't think -the thought doesn't cross a lot of peoples minds...I am sorry that she had to go to this extreme..and I will say a prayer for her family..and for you!!! :-4 You are so positive about your illness! Stay STRONG! :-4

Thats what I think: more underlying problems. I feel like a coldhearted bitch.

Maybe I just dont have it "as bad" as some of these women do. I would just hate to think that suicide is the only answer. Its so frustrating too because its on a board and you cant very well rush over to the persons house and help them, you know?

:-4 DG, Just continue to take care of yourself that is the best advice I can give you. I feel your anguish about not being able to help other who go to extremes and try to kill themselves. Just offer the support you can from afar and pray she makes it. Life is tough each and everyday we can only do so much.

DG, my sister and niece both have this condition,my sister copes with it,

and over the years has resigned herself to the fact that she could'nt have children .



Whereas my sweet niece just cannot come to terms with the fact, and she gets quite depressed because of it,

i suppose what i am trying to say, is that, although they both have the same condition,

it obviously affects them both differently mentally.

Suicide is never the answer. You have no idea what this does to the family left behind. I saw it first hand with my exwife's father. It was and still is the worse thing he could have done.

Maybe by publicly telling you all, it was a cry for help... i'm of the belief that if you intend to commit suicide you just do it you don't tell people, that said i do hope she recovers, suicide is cowardly (i had a friend OD on pill's and i found her ) :-1

Depression affect's people in different way's, i've suffered with it for year's and tend to just go through faze's where i just feel sorry for myself .. for some people they really can't cope at all.

I don't think your callus at all in fact i think your a very warm kind friendly person and i think if you could help a friend,,, you would without hesitation , so don't feel bad .

Here's a thought. Not everyone is as cynical when it comes to the internet as I am I guess. If I were to try to commit suicide, I'm sure my husband would not go to my favorite sites and post about something so personal. I suspect she is doing it herself, no suicide attempt, to feel loved.

Ive thought that as well. The thing is, its a medical and fertility support site. They have a section for husbands/partners/family members of people with this syndrome. So I am kind of leaning more toward that its true. I dont know. We can hope its a fallacy, because that would be even better than this really happening to someone.

Im not sure. I havent been a member for long and dont post there nearly as much as I post here. I mainly go there when I have questions.

DG, is it controlled by medication? Years ago, I worked for a nutritionist and we saw some people with PCOS.

I too am quite trusting and sometimes gullible. I guess there are some really @#$%^&&*!! people on the internet. Gotta remember that.
