maybe to see how "ok" our lives are compared to others.... seems kind of demented really.

Yeah, that 'there's always someone worse off than you' kind of thing.
Wish we didn't have to feel better about ourselves at someone else's expense.

You got that right. I am not sure that is entirely the reason why we find death and suffering so intriquing? But that dates back to gawd knows how far. Makes you shake your head some times thinking about us humans doesn't it.

Oh yeah it does!
But we also have much love, compassion and kindness within us too.
It's good to remember the positives as well!

yes and perhaps we could kick the media into focusing on some of the positives a bit more hmmmmm
