Here's the scenario: Your friend is being a butthead. He's righteously angry about something he believes in very deeply, but you believe he's over-reacting.



Do you stay away from him until he cools off, even if he doesn't?

Do you approach him, risking that he'll turn his anger on you?



What to do?

How long do you think it might take him to cool off? If it were me,

I might let him cool.



Then again, I don't remember this ever happening to me.

Smack him in the face, and egg on a fight! :-5

It depends on the consequences of his continued anger. Is he likely to cause irreparable damage?

Are you close enough friends that you can get away with telling him he is being a butthead?

Is his anger at whatever justified? Maybe he needs to find a way to channel it better.

If all else fails, slap him upside the head and walk away till he cools off.

I'm a "between the eyes" kind of guy. That's the way I give it and that's the way I'd rather get it. I'd feel I'm doing a disservice to a friend to let him embarass himself. (That's not to say I'm 100% consistent in this)



I don't think most people are that way. They'd rather just stay quiet and let the storm blow over. Of course, there's no real right or wrong, just choices. I'd just like to know.
