I happily went outside an hour ago to take my walk on the first day of summer vacation! No more walking around a school track, I would get to walk through my neighborhood that is in a semi-urban suburb of Baltimore. We have blocks of homes, and blocks of forests everywhere-it is green, the birds are singing their melodies in the trees, the bunnies are hopping around. It is very beautiful.

Until today, when I got to the uphill stretch of 1/4 mile, which on the left contains all woods. As soon as I turned the corner I saw nothing-but tree stumps, and dirt. They had cutdown that whole strech of woods. I heard no birds singing, no animal tracks, only another space to build more homes, in an area that was on the top ten list of over inflated housing prices! The homes will be built on the burial grounds of those once beautiful woods.

The government have promised to build a million more homes in the South East. My small town is overrun with building sites and new houses that cost the earth and are the size of rabbit hutches! Wherever there's a corner of spare land...more rabbit hutches are being built!

That is just criminal.!!!!!

It was so sad.

It explained why this morning, as my husband and I sat looking out the glass door, we saw all this wildlife we had never had before in our backyard. A mated pair of woodpeckers, blue jays in a many pairs. They have moved over to safer ground out of the woods, we are only a block away.
