Maybe the cable that runs across the top of the mountain range has got caught on a mountain peak or squashed in a crevasse perhaps? :-3
Okay, that sounded funnier in my head. :p

At a similar time I have trouble with yahoo, but not with other sites. May be one router/gateway is hiccupping??????
(Okay I'm spouting nonsense, but if I do it with a really serious, knowledgeable expression.. people might think I'm a real geek who understands the mysteries of life, the universe, cyberspace)

But you do Pam! Someone must be hiccuping somewhere, and it has universal implications.........................nah, it was too much root beer.

we actually are aware of the problem. we just haven't figured out the solution. it occurs during the nightly backup of the server. i've been trying various little tweaks and things to try to get it to behave, to no avail. unfortunately, because our users come from pretty much every corner of the globe, there really is no time that we could schedule it for that wouldn't affect some cross section of users.
i've made yet another tweak this afternoon, and we shall see how it goes in the morning. i don't think it's going to make any difference.
i recommend 'hot copying' anything important you're in the middle of posting before you hit the 'submit' button, around that time....

last night was an entirely different issue, unpleasantly enough. Our network connectivity provider had to do some significant maintenance on the connections feeding into the location of our servers, which took us off the internet for two hours, ten minutes.

This may be a stupid question so I apologize in advance.
Is Paul's job a full-time paying job as admin for Forum Garden? Or is it just something done 'on the side' for free?
I can't imagine holding down a job and running this zoo!!

I believe that he works at home running a web based computer consultancy and keeps his eye on FG as he's working.
Might not be the full shilling but it's not far short of 11 pence threefarthing.

BR, I know you feel very connected to some people on this site. And I'm sure it has been a sort of lifeline for you at your most difficult times.
Who woulda realized just how close you can become to people you type to? It's pretty amazing, ain't it?:)

There are people here who know me better than some of my blood family, and that's not a joke. A lifeline? Bet your ass.

Well, lookie here...Paul's human.
It's got to be frustrating for you Paul. We all (I feel safe speaking for the majority) completely understand. Just don't EVER threaten us with that again!! California's not so far away that I won't come out there and kick your ass!!! :yh_rotfl :yh_bigsmi

Gee GOSH... Paul.. I wasn't really having a go at you !!!!!!!!! You're a big part of making all this good stuff possible for us. I was just giving rein to a bit of early morning paranoia.. grin.. angst if you like. Times are tough here right now FG is important to me. I love all you Guys... grin. (But never fear, this schmalzy lovey-dovey feeling will go as soon as I've had me coffee, and normal bad-girl systems will be resumed. There are FGers to tease. FGers to chase with my longbow. Limericks to be written...)

trust me on this, it will never happen again. tombstone and i 'discussed' the matter at length, and - albeit after far more discussion than should have been necessary - i saw the error of my ways. it was a costly lesson, but i did learn from it.
