 I've just been around to put some fresh flowers on my Dad's grave and the churchyard is only about 10mins. away from where I live, on the outskirts of the city.

It's not in a remote area, it's overlooked by houses, a primary school and a playing field but when I got there I found that the headstone 2 away from Dad has been vandalised.

Some mindless moron thought it was brilliant fun to throw bright mustard yellow gloss paint all over the flowers and headstone of some poor soul's grave.

As I was walking back through the churchyard to the churchwarden's office to make sure they were aware of what had happened, I saw at least 8 or 10 other headstones/graves which were similarly vandalised.

What the hell is the matter with people today, there is no respect for other people's property, what on earth can they get out of doing such a mindlessly stupid thing. I must be getting old because this just makes me really angry.

I wonder if they give any thought to how their own parents/family would feel if this had happened to their grave.

The churchwarden says he has spoken to the police but there is nothing that can be done . I feel so sorry for the people who will go there and find this appalling mess, the headstones will probably have to be replaced at considerable expense, I can't imagine they will be repairable.

I suppose I should consider that we are lucky in that my Dad's headstone was not chosen for the treatment.

Makes me wonder where it will all end!

(Sorry for the rant but I needed to let off steam):(

That is sad. What I hate is when folks will steal flowers, wreaths or flags from a grave to put on another. Forget the family..is that how you would want your own grave treated? Or how about the ones who push the headstones over!!

When I was young, there was a cemetery bordering my aunt and uncle's house. My cousins and I would sometimes go over and play (hide and seek around the trees, and such). But we were always told that the grave markers meant a person was there and to treat them with respect.

We were taught never to walk on the headstones and grave, but in between. I know my mother would be hurt if someone destroyed my father's marker that way.:(
