I just have to brag here, Jr Minks is taking a 1 week cullinary arts program at our local college this week, and yesterday was her first day. In the morning they cook fantastic food and the kids eat it at lunch. In the afternoon they cook more and bring it home......... so last nite I had the most fabulous spicey crusted baked chicken and lovely grilled veggies. To stretch the meal a little further she whipped up a nice pasta dish. And we ate like queens. It was fantastic. She is just loving this.

Oh gosh I don't know what I get tonite. Tis a surprise, actually tonites dinner stays in the school fridge as Jr is not coming home right after she is going to the stampede. Busy gal.
Ah she was all a chatter about her experience last nite, I just loved the enthusiasim. She is funny as the instructers asked all the kids where they were from and they rattled off their schools and 80% of the class was from the private rich kids school and Jr Minks said to me, "and there I was my turn and I had to admit I was from the Ghetto school" ahahahaha

she aspires to be a cook on a cruise ship. When she serves dinner she makes me sit down and she puts everything together in a gorgeous display on my plate and serves me, I just love it.
This is a kid who was hooked on cooking shows before cartoons way back as a tot. Thank goodness for food network on TV as that is our mainstay of TV. Iron Chef rules ahahahaha I just go along with it.

GREAT thread, Minks! Remind your talented daughter that, if she's a good cook, she's always going to be welcome at parties and other events!
How old is she? She's lucky to know her skills already!

Kathy Ellen wrote: Wow Minx !! That's sounds fabulous. I would love to learn how to cook tasty and spicy food from a real expert. Someday, I plan to visit Tuscany with a chef called Arthur Swartz. He brings his radio listeners to homes of his friends that own buffalo farms and fabulous restaurants and teaches you how to cook the "Italian Way." I'll probably have to save for 10 years just to offord the trip, but why not??

Kathy - what a great first post to choose. !!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to Forum Garden !!
People - Kathy Ellen is an old friend of mine, and the most wonderful person you could ever meet. Love her dearly. I think she was heading for a picnic on the Joisey Shore today - reckon we should take this feast with us and join her. Apparently the drinkie of the day is going to be the "Mojito." Ingredients are: 3 oz. rum, 1 juice of lime, 2 tsp sugar, 3 mint sprigs, and a dash of soda water. Interesting!!!
Go Kathy!!!!

There's a bit of Atlantic Ocean right near her front door and one morning early, surfing-Sydney-Pam decided to ride a few waves. MAN - those waves were killers. I had to get out of the sea. What a hoot though. Grin.

Last nites meal, homemade pasta, with red and white sauce, stuffed baked potatoe, tangy steak skewers, and lendil salad... it was all fantastic, even have some left over for lunch today...
As for Canuck......
I have failed to find any reference to HAM sorry....
"Canuck" is a slang term for "Canadian" in American English and Canadian English.
The term was coined in the 19th century, although its etymology is unclear. Possibilities include:
kanata1 "village" (See Canada)
Canada + -uc (Algonquian noun suffix)
Canada + -inuk (Inuit for "man")
Connaught, an obscure term for Irish-French-Canadians.
The Random House Dictionary notes that: "The term Canuck is first recorded about 1835 as an Americanism, originally referring specifically to a French Canadian. This was probably the original meaning, though in Canada and other countries, Canuck now more often refers to any Canadian." [1]
The use of "Canuck" by Canadians themselves is usually affectionate or patriotic.
The use of "Canuck" parallels that of some other potentially offensive nicknames, that is, when used by the people it names — Canadians in this case — it is usually acceptable. But when used by an outsider — in this case particularly American strangers — it can be easily misinterpreted and deemed as insulting one's heritage. Although it is not as severe as most ethnic slurs, some consider it one.[citation needed]
