The "Swamp Cat" pride. The only known pride of lions to live and in fact thrive in an area that is something like 75% water during the spring. Seeing a lion swimming is a pretty unusual sight!!
Yes, I probably watch way too much Animal Planet.

I saw some of that last night, BR. I caught the last 15 minutes, my husband was watching it. It was an amazing documentary on those big cats.

Was that just last night??? I knew I'd seen it recently, but wasn't sure if it was last night, or earlier....
It is a really good documentary, isn't it? I especially liked the way they focused on one of the cubs in the pride, giving it a more personalized touch. I'm a sucker for those programs.

Yes, it was amazing how when the cubs had reached a certain age, they had to be able to swim to across the swamp to keep up with the pride, to go after the cape buffalo. I wished I had seen all of it, I am sure it will repeat again this weekend. I think Iwill tape it for my class.

Botswana's wonderful because you can drive anywhere you wish...the floods will obliterate your vehicle tracks, and unlike many game parks, you won't degrade the surface.
Botswana's wonderful because you can hire people to take you for rides in the swamp...where the water is only a few inches deep and clear as crystal. You'll be enjoying everything....until they make you get out and carry the boat around the HIPPO who's in the water just ahead of you.
Botswana's wonderful because it's where the "Kalahari Apple" fruit grows...that's the one that resembles a regular apple, but which has a rind so hard it can only split to allow the seed to germinate after it's passed through the gut of an elephant.
Botswana's wonderful because the local people still call it "BUCHANAH" and they sing about it at night--in that heart-breaking perfect harmony that Africans seem to inherit with their blood types and their genders!
Botswana's wonderful because you can fly over it in little planes piloted by people who seem younger than puberty....and you know they've been doing this for years, because they love it....and you can see herds of elephant and giraffe and Capes.
Botswana's wonderful!

I wish we all could go to Botswana and spend time traveling around the country.
DO NOT GO TO CHOBE! It's not a bad park....but it's not a good one, either.
Come with me to Selinda and Chitabe and Kwai River and some others whose names I've forgotten right now....
It's so beautiful and the people are so lovely!
If you've never been to Africa and you'd like to know how it is...
please send me a pm!
