Tomorrow we are registered for the AAA sponsered 6 hour driver safety class. The certification is good for 3 years, and you get 10% off your insurance premiums for each of the 3 years. The 10% off the first time more than covers the cost of the class.:driving:

Cher..I think you have to be a AAA member to take thiers, but I am not sure. I do know that there are other places that sponsor them, like AARP

Hubby and I are AAA members, so I'll have to look into it.

Just go to thier website, www.aaa.com and you can get the info there about where the classes are held locally. You will just need to register on the site.

Marie, forget about the 10% discount gimmick. This post is not a commercial, & no, I don't get a commission from this post! Get AIG Auto Insurance! They are the cheapest insurance rates "ligitamate" company I have ever found. AIG beat the rates against: Nationwide, Allstate, Progressive, State Farm, Amica, GEICO, NAU,

AARP, & "AAA"! This info can really benifit any & all who can qualify for AIG! Again, I am not affiliated with this co, & I don't get a commission from the post, I'm just sharing a good thing, for people who want to save on their car insurance rates!:)

I do not feel it is a gimmick..as it is 10% off, no matter what insurance you use..even AIG!! We are wit Met Life..get car and homeowners through them. Rick has dealt with them for years..and we are perfectly fine with them.

Well just for ha-ha's Marie, if you choose to, call AIG, you can find out just how much you will cut you Met life rate by. I had GEICO for over a dozen years, & in 1987 I bought a new car & found out about AIG all in the same day! AIG was over $300 cheaper than GEICO. So I switched over to AIG back then in 87, & have had them ever since. Our house is now also insured with AIG, again the best rates around.

Side Note: Back in 1997, our car was rear-ended by a person that did not have any insurance at all! AIG paid to repair our car (at autobody shop of our choice) within the first week after the accident, & then went after the guy who rear-ended our car, took him to court, & what ever else was necessary. We were out of the loop with no worries!

We went, and we got our certificates. Interesting class. OK,the insurance thing aside, I really think a class like this should be something all drivers should be required to go through at every license renewal...or at least once every 5 or 6 years.

Just to refresh us about driver safety and accident prevention. Yes, much is common sense, but we tend to become too relaxed some times. Since we last took the class, 4 years ago, there was a whole new section added about Road Rage, and dealing with it..from both sides..being the angry person..and the one on the recieving end.

I did enjoy it.

Wow "Road Rage" Marie, that's a biggie here in New England! Care to share how they taught you to deal with it! For now, I just let the "Road Rager" win, as I am not about to risk my life, & or the lives of others around us to play a rage game, with a temporarily deranged driver! :-2

That is exactly what they teach at the class, cars. Goes back to the common sense thing, I guess. The instructor actually reminded us that THIER problems are not OUR problems. He also told of the well known incident out in California several years back, where some nutjob got mad at a lady driver, and when she was stopped went over and started yelling at her..then reached in, grabbed her dog from the car and threw it out in traffic. Sad.

I just think it is good to have that reminder, now and again, of good driving hab its.:driving:

We also learned to be cautious of the multi-tasking drivers. You know the ones....they are eating, talking on cell, reading, doing anything but concentrating on the road.

The instructor told us a story related by a truck driver in another class. He looked down into another car..with a woman drive. The lady had some sort of contraption attached to her steering wheel, to which she had affixed a book...the contraption held the pages of the book open, so she could read!!

Had a lady behind me today...we were at a light. But she appeared to be having some sort of highly emotional phone conversation. One hand weas holding the phone, the other was gesturing madly all about..and the look on her face seemed one of pure anger! Thing is, New York state has a hands free law in effect...cell phones need to be hands free when driving..meaning speaker phone or headset. I see very few drivers actually using them. I always pull over to use the phone.

I see this frequently over here. A law was passed a while ago that handsfree phones only could be used in vehicles. Regularly, this is just flaunting the law. it indicates to me not only how stupid the drivers are, but also how many people have absolutely no respect for the law or others. What people say in public is not necessarily what they really think. Driving, for me, shows the true, hidden natures of people.
