Cool that you have a science section here at FG..... my husband and I collect antique microscopes, compasses, sextants & octants, drafting instruments, surveying instruments, planetariums, lunariums, tripensees, antique medical instruments, electro static devices.., scales.. basically anything cool looking

Here are some of our antiques.. We have about 250 separate items and besides displaying them around the house, we occasionally rent them to movie companies for props in motion pictures. We have had our antiques in The Time Machine, U-571, The Cell, Anne of Green Gables and a couple of others. It is a neat experience when the set designers come to 'shop'

We moved recently and it was a nightmare packing these things... more than half of them have not seen the light of day siince we moved... they get very dusty too!! LOL Those swiffer dry clothes are my best friend

Yeah... except for the odd piece I have sold when I get tired of dusting it.

Those pics aren't even a quarter of it.... we are cutting down in what we buy now because we just don't have the room for it all.

Absolutely awesome!!

If you don't mind sharing: Where/how did you collect most of these pieces? ebay?

How did the film companies find out about your collection so that you had the opportunity to rent them?

Thanks Tombstone... we really enjoy collecting, we go to auctions and we have serveral local antique dealers who call us when anything scientific comes in, we have bought pieces from Christies Auction House in London - phoning in bids, also on eBay and from antique dealers on the net.

The first time we rented antiques was because Warner Bros wanted a long brass telescope and went to the local dealer they deal with... but he had sold it to us so no longer had it.... he sent them over to us to rent it from us... and the guys eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw what else we had. The six or seven times we have rented to movie houses have all stemmed from this one WB guy talking to his friends in the film industry.

Okay that really messy pic up above with my TV was my old house.. and this is my new house, notice we hardly have anything out... most are still in boxes packed away.
