...sent a letter to Governor Granholm, as I did. She got a call from Granholm's attorney the next day! Here's the email she sent me when she got the call:

I had sent in my email to Governor Granholm yesterday and got a call from her lawyer today. He explained that they had gotten my letter and that because it was in the legal system, we would need to continue until the appeal was done. Once the appeal was done, we could then approach her for a pardon or reduction in sentence. BUT, that would only be after we had appealed it properly. Based on what I told him in the letter, which was the story in a nutshell the way it was told to me, he said that it was clearly self defense and he felt confident that the appeal would "rectify the situation". So, I have his name and he explained that when we are ready, if it's even necessary, I would contact him and we would set up the lengthy process to get a pardon from her.

I know it made me feel really good that he felt that maybe his sentence would be reduced or even he may be released with time served.

Anyway, Criss, I'm thinking about you and hope this makes you realize that though things cant seem to get any worse....they will get better soon...just hang in there.

That is such good news, BR. Doesn't it raise your spirit to know there's a good hope?

My thoughts (beams) continue to be sent.

flopstock wrote: Not to burst your little bubble of paranoia girlie..:D .. but because it is an election year and politicians always have to appear tough on crime... the mere fact that they responded in this manner is way exciting for me! Can you name the LAST politician that went out of their way to make this kind of contact with the family of someone convicted?

It may not happen tomorrow or even next week.. but I believe with all my heart that this will end right! And hope is a nice place to pin yourself until you have matt back with you to pin...:-4
I did think it was unusual for us to be contacted, and so quickly, but I don't know how these things work, it could have been standard operating procedure, for all I know. You guys really think this is big, huh?

I have never had to deal with doubt like this...doubt in myself or my capabilities, doubt in where we were going or how we were going to get there...I'm not used to it, and I don't like it.

I may be 'politics', but you have it in WRITING...

Have faith, have hope....:-4 I'm not too good with words Criss, so have 'stolen' the quotes below :-

Hope is always available to us. When we feel defeated, we need only take a deep breath and say, "Yes," and hope will reappear. -- Monroe Forester

"Hope" is the thing with feathers-- That perches in the soul-- And sings the tune without the words-- And never stops--at all-- Emily Dickenson

I'm short on time & didn't read all the responses, sorry. BR, hope by itself is butter without bread. You've got to get that email somewhere so that the governor can't have plausible deniability, should you need to cash in on her promise. Talk to your lawyer of course, but I'd make this public somehow.

We're all pulling for ya'll.

Good Advice.

As I have mentiond beofore, I'll mention it again. Get the Media involved!

TV, Local paper news watchdog, whatever!

If you are going to speak to a politician I don't think it's a good idea to tell the media. The politicians feels cornered. They don't like that.

If you strike out with the politician then it might be an idea to try the media, but in any case, as the old saying goes, use a long spoon when you sup with the Devil.

I know I'm cynical, I have very good reasons for so doing.

I may well be wrong (I am frequently wrong, you'd think I'd be used to it now) but if I shut up and say nothing then I have robbed you of an opinion which you are welcome to consider.
I was thinking along the exact same lines guys. I don't want to wreck my chances of having the governor's assistance on this, and to stick her in the lime-light with the media could put undue pressure on her. If I do crap out with her, yes, the media will always be there for me to use, should I need it.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to add their thoughts. You guys always come up with new ways for me to approach my situation.
