How much personal information do you put on it?

I know my kids have pages, and I make sure they have no personal information listed, such as address and phone numbers.

How fast is this information passed around on it?

I ask, because they discovered the body of a youth in the elementary school down the street from mine last night. The local news and papers wouldn't say who it possibly was, until about an hour ago. But my son pulled up who it was, early this morning with pictures and name-and of course I was shocked, he was my student the first year here. There were links to his picture and disappearance in June. How did they know all this? And the poor kid just went to the local convenience store-probably for a soda or something, he was robbed, and then he disappeared. The convenience store photos and everything were up, yearbook photos, etc.

It was kind of scarey to think so much information on one site-is that a good or bad thing?

it always concerns me when people give out a lot of personal information on the internet.

on my other forum this girl gave the link to the real estate listing of their new house, it had the address, pics of the inside, etc. :-2

I don't know anyone that has their phone Numbers and an address on their page! I have 117 Friends on there and NONE of them have that.. It is basically what type of music do you like-what are your favorite movies- what are your general hobbies & just a little about you like your personality and stuff. It isn't anything bad. Myspace got a bad name because of STUPID kids giving their information to strangers:-2 ! I have browsed tons and tons of profiles and not one have I seen personal information..
it's sad that kids and even adults don't realize how dangerous it is to give out personal information anywhere on the internet....

My daughter has a myspace page and has for a couple of years. We have talked in depth about what information she can and can't put on her page. I must say - she is very level headed about it and doesn't put things on that I would consider dangerous. She does have what state we live in listed.

I am more careful about who she spends time sending IM's to. She is not allowed to have anyone on her buddy list that she doesn't know. As in, people she went to school or worked with.

The computer that the kids use is in the living room, right next to the family television.

My daughter is 19 years old and I can't protect her forever, but I am doing the best that I can.

Everyone on my buddy list I've met and know. I've had a couple of friends leav comments with their phone numbers and I always delet them after I read them. I also comment them back telling them not to comment me with their numbers. Myspace has a thing for personal messages, where you can send the person a message with numbers and things like that. The onlt annoying thing I find about myspace is people I don't know sending me messages, that I read and sometimes laugh at and then delete.

I don't have any private info like my phone number or address. I don't even have my last name on their. Most of my buddies are friends, former classmates, bands, and folks I know from FG.

It's really sad though bout the little boy, and I too wonder how all the stuff was on the myspace site before the media released anything.

Cool,

My best Bud at work, his wife's job is too find poeple. Her company is hired by a vast array of clients too find some one they are looking for.You would surprised at the trail you leave behind with atm/ debit cards, department store cards, gas cards and the like.Noy too mention places like ebay, overstock, and yep, myspace. If you have the clearence,(and she does) you can trace someone anywhere and find a pattern.

Deadbeat dads are one of the most tracked.Let's see Mr smith, now that we have you in court,Seems you can't afford $150 a month in child support but you can spend $275 on DVD's and CD's plus a MP3 player at Walmart.
