In an interesting move, Conservative PM Stephen Harper appointed a Liberal MP, Wajid Khan, as Special Advisor on the Middle East.

Is Mr Khan a token? Will his input change Canada's foreign policy at all? It was notable that Khan supported the deployment of troops to Afghanistan already. If he hadn't, would he still have been appointed?

But Khan was also chosen in part because he understands and supports Canada's mission in Afghanistan and can send that message to other Canadians, said Kenney.

That's the problem. I suspect it is a PR move and doesn't mean anything to the future of our foreign policy. It is more interesting because the MP is from the opposition party. I just have trouble believing he did it to improve his knowledge of the various situations.

I wish she'd run for leader of the Liberal party. It would have been better than watching a sitcom.
