LONDON (Reuters) - British police on Thursday said they had thwarted a plot to blow up aircraft in mid-flight between Britain and the United States, and were holding 21 people after overnight raids.

Can alway count on the Brits to be on top of Security, we could learn something here and hope we do. I don't care if it takes 24 hours to get through security that's the way it should be. :-3 Only other country that does it better is Israel.

And may the security and serious measures continue to protect us.

My feelings precisely! These are all British Muslims apparently, of Pakistani descent but born in the UK. You would think they'd have SOME warm feelings towards their friends and family, enough not to want to blow their neighbours to Kingdom come!

Tony Blair should come down HARD on them and kick all their relatives OUT of the country! Let their families suffer! Take away their council houses and dole money!

Let them SEE their families suffer! And send them to a tough prison! If they wanted to kill themselves I hope they go somewhere where the inmates do it for them - slowly and painfully! They're all scum sucking boils on the arse of the Universe!

Prolly a good punishment to send them back home to poverty and corruption in their own countries. Tis simply abhorrible that they flee their countries, pleading with governments to let them in, take advantage of our systems, and build dispicible terrorist pods to terrorize the world. They make me sick.

The sad fact is, security at airports will soon return to the lax way it was in the UK.

Unfortunately airports put money above security of passengers.

Ok, I am a forum junkie and I am just appalled at the amount of complaining being done by people who don't fly!

I am sorry, but if I need to take a flight somewhere, replacing beauty supplies would be the least of my worries.

It was a good job by the police in England today, in terms of the suspects I would hope that they would be tried before a court of their peers and convicted if found guilty by due process, after that they can do what they like with them. Thats justice, not a bullet in the head, or persecuting their families (unless they are involved of course) thats the kind of world that they would like us to live in, and is exactly why we shouldn't let them dictate to us how we live in our societies. I think one of the goals of these people is to make us as militantly reactionary and xenophobic as they seem to be, I think that what Blair said in L.A. is quite pertinent, in that in the end it is the ideals of justice, tolerance and freedom of expression that will win out in the end, not these religious zealots, as they have nothing to offer anyone, muslim or otherwise except unending war, bigotry, murder, and religious hatred.

Although the information is changing constantly, they think either tonight or tomorrow night was the date they had planned on for setting off the bombs!

This might not be the forum for me to say this, BUT: Can we all forget about "political correctness" for awhile and NOT deny little old ladies their moisturizer as they fly overseas?

If I knew that some middle-aged, white, curly-haired red-headed women were terrorists plotting to kill thousands via planes, I'd expect to be targeted for security searches at airports.

That wouldn't offend me!

What DOES offend me is the overreaction of TSA, who, ONCE AGAIN, is penalizing everyone in a misguided effort to appear "correct."

It's stupid, it's wasteful and it adds to the problem.

(I'll never forget the time in Paris when my companion and I were hassled because she had a forgotten gift set, including a cheese server, in her carry-on bag. A cheese-server, friends, much like a pie-server. A triangular, round-edged utensile. We wound up having to mail it to LAX. Stupid, stupid, stupid.)

If we're fighting a war on terrorists, let's look to where the terroists might be.

I agree with what you're saying Lulu, but at the same time look at all the white middle-aged women who go on holiday and come back with a young toy boy who really only wants a British passport!

They say the bombs were made of liquid and couldn't be picked up on airport scanners. So what if the toyboy gave his woman some gorgeous moisturiser for her trip, then remote detonated it over central London?

It's happened before!

Personally I'd rather fly safely than be blown up by a bottle of fake moisturiser!

You just never know!

As I watched the local news tonight, there was a family there that was going to Europe for a much anticipated family vacation. They had saved for quite a while and in order to skip the baggage claim area, they had pared what they needed down to the essentials and packed those essentials into carry on bags.

A family member called them this morning after watching the news and told them of the new restrictions. So, they hurried up and repacked their belongings into suitcases.

Then they went to the airport, giving themselves SIX hours to clear through the checkpoints and such. Then their flight was delayed. At 6:00 pm, when they were on t.v. they said that they will have waited 8.5 hours for their flight.

AND THEY DID IT WITHOUT COMPLAINING!!!!!!!

Is it really so hard and so unreasonable to not take liquid or gel items onto a plane? Is it really putting you to that much trouble?

As for those who think that the airlines are behind this - get over it.

It will be interesting to see just how much money was lost by airlines today because of cancelled flights and how much they will lose in the near future because people have decided that it would be safer to drive to their destination as opposed to flying.

They can take all the precautions they want to as far as I'm concerned. Every time I fly I wonder if they've checked as much as they need to. And they check me ALL the time, blonde-haired granny-make me take off my tennis shoes, empty my purse, etc. Keep right on doing it!

I've taken literally hundreds of domestic and international flights in my life. This isn't about "denying little old ladies their cosmetics" and if anyone interpreted my IRONIC remarks as something that simplistic, I'd like to correct the impression.

Consider this...every day, thousands of illegals come across our borders and nobody does anything about it. Now, a terrorist plot is foiled (and I applaud the Brits for their brilliant detection!) and suddenly, we're overreacting and denying people their chapstick on a flight from Denver to Omaha.

Doesn't anyone see the irony in this?

My boyf is a police officer and is on his shift right now - they've been sent off to Stanstead Airport to control any crowds and maintain a presence should anybody decide to do anything silly!

I hate the fanatic a-holes for making me worry about him doing his job!!!

On the BBC this morning was some silly old bat whingeing about not being

allowed to take hand luggage (make up, hard case sor sun-glasses) on - "My

glasses might be scratched". Her boy, an early-teen aged one by the look,

was whingeing that he wouldn't be allowed to take his "game boy", an

electronic amusement device (he'd get frightfully bored, he said). I could scarecly

believe thier attitude. I could scarecly believe the BBC hadn't better things to

present to us, either.

Gosh-can't live without the gameboy for few hours! I'm sure they have newspapers or someting onboard that the airlines have screened prior to departure, do some reading, kid!

I find it quite frightening to think of the overwhelming hatred these people must have in their hearts to enable them to plan such atrocities. Where does it come from, I wonder...I mean really come from?
