I've been reading Lennox's thread on OJ and got wondering. Has anyone here been referred to as racist?

I unfortunatly have. It was along time ago in highschool, but it pissed me off.

Just a question..

As long as it still pisses you off, you are in the *right* place :)

It don't really bother me now, cause the guy and I eventually talked bout it and he apologized. It's just that sometimes folks seem to scream your being racist as a defense mechanism, and that really hacks me off.

I have been called both a racist and a N.... lover, multiple times on both accounts. For what it's worth, the mud was being slung by ignorant bottom feeders. I know what I am! I'm the Cat! You get along with me, I'll get along with you, live and let live. Peace!:yh_peace

OMG! I've been called a "racist" so many times! I do not feel that I am a racist. Just the other day a mean old woman called me "racist" and a "bigot". This was because I wasn't interested in associating with a fat, greasy, horny, rude, Mexican guy who was flirting with me. And suddenly this makes me a "racist". I admit that sometimes I stereotype the Mexican race. But it seems to me that there are certain "qualities" they have. And I won't say what. I will say though, that I live in California, southern California to be exact.:wah:

My lover is black. People tend to overlook this fact. It is his dark skin that is one of the things that turns me on so much about him.:p :-4

Saffron, I understand what you mean. Different cultures do have certain qualities that speak poorly of them as well as good qualities. I have said before that I cannot support certain countries because they torture and eat dogs and cats. I have said that I cannot support bullfighting in certain countries. I've said that I can't support countries who torture and kill women or who put women last. Can't support countries who kill each other over religion either. I've been told all times that I need to "respect" their different cultural aspects but I find that word respect bandied about where it doesn't belong. I know it will come up so let me also say that America is wrong in my eyes for eating and torturing animals too and for many other things. I think it's perfectly acceptable to call out these ignorances without being termed a racist.

Oh, yes! I've been called "racist" when I stood against "reparations" for black people and when I stand against illegal immigration. I've been called "racist" when I take a stand against affirmative action and when I state publicly that many of the problems in the black community are a direct result of the lack of parental skills which Bill Cosby rails against, too.

I shake my head when this happens....because I love my black friends, am a frequent guest in their homes and am always welcomed when I visit my friends in Mexico.

I'm called "racist" when I say that we've created a culture of "victimization" in this country which makes it easier to cry "RACISM" than to look for truth.

Now, don't think I'm denying that racism exists. Of course it exists! It exists in many hearts, many religions and in many races/cultures.

However, I honestly believe that racism in this country has diminshed and will continue to diminsh, as long as those who consider themselves "victimized" are willing to let it die and begin to believe.

Certainly, there will always be those (of any color) who are willing to hate others (of any color) because of their own insecurities. We can't do much about that. We CAN contintue to raise children who don't see the stereotypes and who don't see the history and who judge their friends on the quality of their hearts!
