Cancer update From: Johns Hopkins

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this Memo out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.

Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat.

He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper.

It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.

I do recall them proving that distilled water was carcenogenic once - but it was more to prove that another team's technique was lousy than a serious claim.

The transmigration of toxins from plastic into food is NOT a myth. This has been known for quite a few years.

I have no need to read it, I've known about this for some time. It's a subject that has been thoroughly researched and argued upon for quite some time.

If it's not dioxins per se, it's got to be some other junk.

Why ingest that stuff if you don't really have to? I think also a lot of

things aren't "cured" enough. I don't like the taste of some stuff

specifically because I can detect the plastic taste. Same with aluminum

cans, one time somebody suggested if I didn't like my sodas out of cans

to pour them in a glass before I drank them... problem solved.

What about people (and I include children in that category) wearing plastic

clothes, or teflon-coated natural fibres, etc.? Will this cause a problem?

When I saw this info on plastic I was concerned. I have a bottle of water in my freezer every day. So I decided to do a bit of research on the matter. After a short search I was not worried at all. Freezing actually works against the release of chemicals. Heating the plastic I think I would be concerned about, but not freezing.

The link I supplied was to show that there is no email from Johns Hopkins concerning the release of dioxins in frozen water bottles. If Annabelle had bothered to read the link she would've seen that's what I was talking about and this wouldn't have turned into a mini power struggle and misunderstanding.



One more thing... many of the horror stories we receive in emails turn out to be big fat lies by someone with too much time on their hands and a strange sense of humor. In other words, check it out before panicking!

I had to get rid of all the plastic in my house. My cat has a skin alergy that is irritated by plastic, and she has a plastic fettish. If you bring one of those plastic grocery bags around her, she licks it. Crazy cat! :p
