He was charged today with murder, kidnapping and sexual abuse of a child.
His lawyer is now saying that his statements have all been taken out of context, and he was actually injured while being "jostled" by the reporters and cameras while still in Tailand.

He looked quite happy in the photo's as he was leaving.
What's with the reports that he was in Alaska at the time of the murder?

Alaska? I heard Alabama, with his now ex wife. She has said she feels baddly if she is providing him with an alibi...she has no warm fuzzy feelings for him.

Actually, it's John MICHAEL Karr (not that I particularly want to see his name all the time)
Here is a thread already started on it:

He was all over the media here today, and looking pleased as he could be, if I might say so. I believe he'll be out of here & on his way to Colorado within a day or two. Good riddance. He's either a murderer or a total LOON. (I apologize for the technical term. :wah: )
Bryn, the story they're telling is that his former wife says they were on vacation together in either Atlanta or Alabama (well, close  ) at the time of the murder, but there are some other gross inconsistensies, too. We haven't heard the end of this, sorry to say.
Meanwhile, we're being blitzed with photos of that poor child in those horrible costumes, made up like a little tart and prancing around onstage. I could live the rest of my life without seeing such a travesty of "innocent childhood."

The onset of early senility - it was in America and it started with A so it must have been Alaska :-3

My apologies, Marie... I'm seeing some who have the middle name one
way, some the other.
But it looks like more have it as Mark, so I guess that's it.

No problem. He is an odd one for sure. Even if he is not convicted of this crime....I hope he never gets to be around children any more, that is all I can say.

valerie wrote: Actually, it's John MICHAEL Karr (not that I particularly want to see his name all the time)According to numerous online links, the man's name is John Mark Karr.
Not that it really matters, but it's interesting that the press frequently has such trouble with names. Remember a few years ago, there was an American Taliban sympathizer named John Walker Lindh? - or was it Walker-Lindh? or Linde? - or Lind? - or just John Walker? - ennyhoo, there were about 5 or 6 variations on his name, according to which network or publication you were using.
Another example is the late gangster Mr. Giancana, to whom the press nearly always referred as 'Sam "Momo" Giancana'. The man's GIVEN NAME was Momo Salvatore Giancana. His NICKNAME was 'Sam', yet regardless of the source, it was nearly always printed the other way 'round.
Still another example is TV weathermen referring to earthquakes as 'tremblers' when the correct term is 'temblor'. Well, I guess they do 'tremble'.
In any case, I think John Mark Karr is probably correct, and he is NOT the fiction writer John Karr.
Whether he is guilty is another matter. If he was indeed in Alabama on the night in question, then I vote no.

I knew I should have edited my post instead of THIS:

There is unfortunately a connection to the area I live, and it has been
"Michael" here quite a bit.
I've known about the discrepancies since high school... I had a classmate
who drowned and nobody in the press got it right.

And just on the issue of alibi by his wife - we need to remember that the prosecution has to prove it's case, not the other way around.
Innocent until proven guilty unless you confess

Thing is, till the DNA comes back against him, or there is more evidence to back up his confession, they are backed up against a wall. Sometimes just the confession is not enough.

Too many instances of false confession for that to be safe.
Confession to protect another person
Confession by attention seakers
Confession by the mentally ill
They all happen in surprising numbers.

Totally agree.
The DNA will make or break the case.
Period. :-6

I doubt it, Carla. To paraphrase the late Johnny Cochran, 'if the DNA doesn't fit [and it doesn't - Br.], you MUST acquit.'
Since it's very unlikely he will even be tried for the crime, acquittal is beside the point.
Listen, he got a free FIRST-CLASS flight home. Know how much that would have cost? There is also a serious possibility that he could sue the various publications that have proclaimed him guilty for MILLIONS of dollars and WIN! Remember, he never said that he slew the child, he said that she died acci dentally. Crazy like a fox?
That of course leaves open the original question: Who dood it?

With the Colorado "charges" dropped, Mr Karr is going to be extradited back to Cali , but to bad he could go nonstop back to Thailand where he obviously was trying to escape from anyway.

I am glad someone is on the side of law and order. Let's see him proven guilty before making assumptions.

He's already been proven innocent of the murder charge on DNA evidence.

You wouldn't have thought so from some of the comments on this group.
