I have a long list of e-mails to send. I have figured out how to mail merge them with WORD,however, that program defaults to Ourtook Express and I don't use Outlook. Can anyone tell me where and how to change the mail server in WORD so I can send these e-mails?

Actually you can change it in your browser, assuming you have MS Internet Exporer. Click Tools, Internet Options, then Programs, Not sure if you can set up online email such as Hotmail, but give it a shot.

Thanks..I use NETSCAPE, but I have set-up the Internet Explorer so it defaults back to Netscape (or something) and that hasn't helped. I have looked in all the manuals and no where can I find a reference to changing that particular default in WORD.

You still have to going to internet tool option then programs and indicate how you want NETSCAPE OR IE to handle certian task.. the default for email comes from there and no other place, and is usually set to DEFAULT TO OUTLOOK EXPRESS, once you do that it will open the correct email provider you choose.

I e-mail from NETSCAPE. Internet Explorer (if I were to use it) uses the same dial-up . I'm still playing with it. Given long enough, I'll find a way!!:-5

Yes it is there in Netscape and IE setting and default on how to handle certain tasks. Until you change these defaults it will not automatically open Netscape from your word document for sending these emails. Trust me I do this all day long, I train staff on how to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access all the Windows Office programs.

Have you through about just CUTTING AND PASTING the email into Netscape email and sending it like that, Or send it as an attachment.

I have about 600 names to send a newsletter to, and I need to address each separately (long story) the e-mail merge function in WORD is perfect for that task IF I can get it to work..otherwise I'll just have to send it BCC to the list and figure out some other way to individualize it.

From the start menu go into the control panel, select Internet Options.

Within that select the Programs tag

Within that select outlook excess from the e-mail drop down box

That should tell word to pass the list to OE when ready.

Have you considered using a newsletter managing program/service? If you're only mailing to 600 names you might be able to use something for free if you let them put a little advertizing in the newsletter, kind of like the ads at the end of free e-mail service e-mails. Or if you have a website you might already have something depending on your setup. Either way you should be able to do double opt-ins too.
