Driving along this morning, approaching a roundabout, doing about

55-60 MPH. In front were about half a dozen cars. Suddenly a big

cloud of blue smoke appeared from under the third car in front.

That car and the one in front of it pulled over onto the verge.

Everyone else indicated and passed the broken glass resulting from

the collision that had occurred, then promptly disappeared into the

distance!! Are they all really in *that* much of a hurry, that they

can't be bothered to stop? Would *you* stop?

That's what cell phones are for. Stopping on the verge can be dangerous, too, and we're not all capable of first aid. I'm going to assume the best and imagine all those drivers who passed were calling 911.

Since they both pulled over presumably they were OK. Personally I wouldn't stop for a minor shunt unless I was a witness to the full accident and thought the innocent driver needed a witness. A more serious one I probably would if I thought I could help but I know nothing of first aid.

Worst nightmare is a witness who didn't actually see what happened but thinks they know.

I was hit by a motorcyclist on a roundabout, I'd pulled out and did an emergency stop to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me, the motorcyclist hit the tail of my stationary car. One witness came forward ranting and raving about why did I pull out in front of the bike-he hadn't seen the the other car or realised I was stationary just the bike hitting me.

Luckily there was another witness who saw the whole thing and gave a statemnent to the police because the motorcyclist got the police involved. Two contradictory statements They ended up charging the motorcyclist for driving without an MOT, no insurance and defective brakes I'm not sure about the eye test but he would probably have failed that as well. It's funny in retrospect but I could have found myself charged with dangerous driving.

Knocked over a pedestrian once (didn't hurt him just gave him a fright) . Sitting at traffic lights, lights go green I move off and suddenly there are shouts and a loud banging and I find myself accused of having no parents and not looking where I was going.

Tell me if you were towing a caravan and were sitting at traffic lights would it occur to you that someone might cross the road between the car and the caravan? It was really hard to sympathise.

All cell phones at least in the US are setup to call 911 with the touch of one button on the phone. You can then at no cost to you report the accident and where it is at. I have done this many time on the freeway, no place to stop just called 911. Sometime if is a bad one I will find a safe place to stop and see if I can assist in any fashion.
