You know I was watching "The Bourne Identity" the other night and there is a scene where Matt whats-his-name has a shoot-out on the stairs and he has two guns, one right way up and one upside down. It made me realize how far we have advanced in gun-aiming techniques over the years.

I mean remember the old gangster movies where the arm was closely held to the body and the little tiddly gun was held at about groin height, that was an advance on the western way of shooting which was sort of get it out of the holster and let it rip at belly height with the arm kindof away from the body. I don't think much happened in gun holding techniques then until the 1970s when it became a more freestyle affair, which suited the style of the times. Then the 80's came in and we saw that double handed, gun-as-far-away-as-possible style that was so popular with hero's and bad guys alike. Of course in the 1990's it was taken to a whole new level where popular rap-inspired heros started shooting sideways and the ever popular behind the head-without-looking style. I am wondering what the next wave of gun-shooting fashion will bring? Perhaps the spinning the gun round by the trigger and firing in every direction at once (except yourself if possible) style will break new ground in the action movies of the future.

That's so funny!! I never would have thought of this if you hadn't posted about it, and it's all true, now that I think about it! How funny! Especially this last part. :wah:

It is true, though... and not only those styles, but another three or four I can conjure off-hand... holding the gun with the side held parallel to the ground is another one that comes to mind... I sense an excellent article in the making, here... with a lil' research, certainly.

Haven't you ever noticed in most westerns six-shooters fire off more rounds than a gattling gun? I have seen Equilibrium with Christian Bale and that makes wonderful use of guns without the person using them getting shot.
