I like runners, but they've been so successful this year that I've got 'em practically

coming out of my ears. I like growing them, and have given away lots! I grew

mainly Enorma, with some last-years Scarlet Emporer and Desiree. Fantastic!

What beans do you like growing?

I don't grow 'em , I just eat 'em. But I shelled peas as a kid all the time. Purple hull, butter beans, snap peas, ..... Love all legumes.

I like green beans (your runners) and fresh peas. I have eaten the peas raw, right off the vine. Yummm!!

Are they really runners (phaseolus multiflorus), or French beans (phaseolus

vulgaris??

Which do you grow (or both!)?

I like tropical hyacynth beans, scarlet runner and kentucky wonder heirloom beans... they add a certain aesthetic quality to the garden, as well with their purple and red flowers. I also tried growing some beans that I took straight from bags of beans/peas I got at Walmart... black beans, black-eyed peas, kidney, garbanzo and black beans which were most fascinating to watch grow... and I love black-bean soup! :D

Runners have been my favourite beans since I had them as the plat du jour in a restaurant in Paris. They were beautifully cooked and presented and absolutely delicious - completely unlike the way my mum used to cook them at home! :wah:
