Hi, I'm on a engineering team that is looking to design a product that helps determine the amount of sunlight :-6 in a certain spot. We're looking for feedback, ideas, or features to include. What you would look for in a product like this, etc..etc... ANY feedback is useful and much appreciated! We're hoping this will help people choose the right spots for certain plants, or be able to choose the plant given a specific spot. In what other places could this be used? Thanks for any help!

Maybe some add-on for the moisture content of the air in that spot.

Some places can be sunny and dry and some places can be sunny

and humid, right?

hey thanks for the repy valerie! I like your idea, are a lot of plants sensitive to the humidity? (i'll be honest, i have more of a grey thumb than a green one, so i'm new to this whole thing) If we did that, any thoughts on displaying that?

They can be... depends on exactly what you want to grow... for

example, a cactus would do very well in a sunny DRY place, but not

a sunny HUMID one.



I have a dryer vent on the side of the house that pours out a lot of

warm moist air... and I have a lot of more "tropical" plants there such

as night blooming jasmine, hawaiian ginger, etc.



AS for the display... dunno. Maybe a needle that sweeps from dry to

wet? Or, hmmm... probably better to go digital!!

I never thought that a dryer vent could produce a tropical atmosphere, that's actually pretty cool. I wonder if you could put a greenhouse right over the vent if you could grow some real cool stuff? (or would you have to do laundry every day through the winter? lol). So do you think this would be something you might even get or use? And one thing that'd be super helpful if you could describe how you think you might use it.... (nice and open ended for ya)

Your could use a portable humidifier for the tropical plants.

I've seen that used for a cigar case.

Are you looking into what type of plants grow best in certain conditions? Or sunlight and humidity in general? This would be a good project if you were looking into which crops grew best under certain conditions and so could increase crop yield in Africa and improve the world's carrying capacity.

The food security of millions of vulnerable people is at risk due to our exponential increase in world demographics, so to find a way to improve food security (whilst remembering the negative results from the Green Revolution of the 60s) would be a wonderful thing!

Oh, I thought you were offering me a free trip to Tahiti....................:-6

TBH, I don't think I'm in your "buyer demographic"...

I've been gardening all my life, since helping daddy pick green beans...

;)



Through trial and error I know pretty much what will do well where.

(Awkward sentence construct, yes?)



But I think this might do for younger or first time inexperienced

gardeners, to save them some expense perhaps.
