Sonoma County Sheriff's office has "lost" John Mark Karr's computer.

They can't locate it. :-5

Karr had just been offered a plea bargain, reduced charges with

no more jail time. He would have to register as a sex offender the

rest of his life.

His lawyers are wondering if the loss was the impetus behind the

plea bargain. Ya think?

One former prosecutor, now a defense attorney, said going to trial

without the computer would be like going to a murder trial after losing

the bloody knife or the smoking gun.

What a shame that a sick nut case like him should be free let alone get a reduced sentence. Seems like things haven't changed much there at all. :(

i'm wondering if they can't at least get him on an unlawful flight to avoid prosecution/fugitive from justice charge. also, he should be on probation (if that's what happens  ) with an ankle bracelet and be forced to pay restitution for the very expensive trip from thailand to LA. heads should roll for losing track of that computer.

Apparently, it was actually lost back in 2002 when the office moved

to a new building. Lost or "purged" they said, when they had too many

items in evidence from too many cases!!

(Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger!!)

There are some early squeaks that his attorneys might decide to

"go for it" at trial, because a jury would want to SEE hard evidence.
