The Departed is the latest Martin Scorsese film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson. The story takes place in Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan Leonardo DiCaprio is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello Jack Nicholson. While Billy is quickly gaining Costello’s confidence, Colin Sullivan Matt Damon, a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that there is a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy — and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself.

Hey Nomad :-6
I've been looking forward to this film for months! Scorcese did a lot of filming in and around Boston -- another good reason for me to see it.

Saw it...loved it !!!
5 popcorn kernels for this one.
Great modern day crime story. Great plot, great cast, great backdrop (Boston) great great great !
Highly recommend this one if your a film lover.
Jack Nicholson was in peak performance, Leonardo DiCaprio has done his best work yet. Hes really come into himself and I consider him a serious actor after watching this. Matt Damon was top notch, and in a smaller roles Mark Walberg and Martin Sheen were icing on the cake. Hardly even noticed Alec Baldwin which is what his role called for.
This one is right up there with Goodfellas.

I haven't seen it yet. I'm scared to. I saw the original that the screenplay by Scorscese based his film on (Infernal Affairs) and I really loved that one and I'm afraid the Departed won't measure up. But it is really hard to resist the beauty of Mark Whalberg.

The Departed is full of testosterone. :wah: That will certainly pull me into the theatre
I'm happy to hear from you that its as good as the trailer implies. I've read it closely resembles the original but with an Irish gangster twist to it. From the trailer it seems the basic story outline is the same.
Yes, see the original - it is excellent. But probably won't compare to the Leo, Mark, Jack, Matt combo. Sadly, I don't believe their is an English version of the original. It is an Asian movie (Infernal Affairs). When I saw it, it was subtitled

You know folks we expect to much from movies these days just that simple. I go to be entertained and taken away for a few hours nothing more. Did this movie do that damn straight it did. I like Nomad give it 4 out of 5 bags of Popcorn enjoyed it very much. Jack is just Jack doesn't get any better than that.

I didn't think Scorcese could surpass himself with The Goodfellas...but in my opinion he has. I was riveted to the edge of my seat with this one. I have seen it twice in the past two weeks and it was as good the second time around. Superlative cast, memorable performances by so many and at long last I'm a believer and fan of Leonardo di Caprio. I saw glimpses of his art in Aviator but now he has shown his depth as an actor. Mark Wahlberg delivered the goods in his supporting cast and was totally believable. Jack, what can we say about Jack Nicholson ? He is brilliant and must have loved doing this role...what a wealth of material for him to work with.
If Scorcese doesn't land a few Oscars with this one especially the Best Director then Ill eat my socks!
