Have just been introduced in the uk, anyone have any thoughts on this. Do you think it really will help to combat crime . I for one bloody hope so . I was not best pleased this time going through Gatwick and being told to remove my boots - cheek :(

They've got some kind of little chips in them, Chonsi, with a stored photo and possibly some other data. They've been trialling them here for a while and I think all new or renewed Australian passports from this October will be biometric. Anything that makes travel safer is okay by me. I'm used to being searched, even strip searched, having my photo and fingerprints taken, being tested for explosives etc etc. All part of the fun of travel these days, thankyou Uncle Osama and Co.

They're a good idea, aren't they! However, I vehemently object to linking them

with an intrusive database of personal details (cf. ID cards).

My question is-the passport has the chip?

Not the person themselves?

I don't like the sound of either of them......................I will not get a passport then.

*sigh*

But even Mexico you have to have one soon.

This stinks!

A few days before I went away in August, I hurt my back and couldn't bend. It was great fun struggling to put my boots back on in Amsterdam and Oslo. Really blew my pose with all those good-looking women around I don't mind telling you :o

A couple of months ago i had to report my daughters mobile phone as stolen and there on a rather large poster it said that in order to report your passport lost /stolen you would have to supply a photo copy . Now, how on earth would you know to supply a photo copy unless you had seen the information first ...also when reporting the theft of a mobile phone you also need all of the serial number to make that report .
